As I said in my intro to joining the club - I will have questions:)

Here's an easy one - tried filling the water tank - (we have an Arctic Fox TT so not new to this) - I can see the tank is only about 1/2 full - put hose in water fill hole (not the waste out) - after a few seconds water starts to back up as if the tank is full but it's not. Something restricting or blocking the water from entering the tank. Any ideas? Thanks.

Is your water vent clogged?

Check the vent fitting - could be clogged. Not sure what boat you have - not sure if it's an external vent fitting or integral to the fill cap. The other possibility is the vent line has a dip in it and has collected water - follow the line from the tank. This one's easy - water in/air out.

I try not to fill the water tank with the water a full blast or I get the same results as you. Turn down the volume to about 1/2 and it should allow the air to escape while filling.

There is a vent fitting just below the rub strake. I will have a look tomorrow. Thank you.

I will try this also. Thank you.

I am going to check this. Should have thought of this from experience of filling TT - you can hear see the venting. Thank you.

I get similar results on my boat.

My vent is just inside the full tube and if I don't aim the hose water directly into the full tube, it will splash into the vent port causing it to splash out even though it's not full.

I'm thinking that you just didn't shove the hose in there far enough and it is filling the vent and the fill tube at the same time. I usually shove the end of the hose at least 6-8" into the deck fill, maybe even a little more.

OK Got it. Checked vent all looks good there. Then stood there looking at the boat and noticed that the trailer was jacked up quite high. Don't know where I learned this but water does not flow up hill:) Lowered jack down almost to the ground and still found line was up hill to the tank. Then as Skibum states above shoved hose in about a foot and turned tap on almost full and forced water into the tank. That worked. Another one of life's mysteries solved. Thanks for your help everyone.

That's good it seems to be working, but...

You mentioned you have an external vent. So shoving the hose in further wasn't part of the solution. Or, at least if it was, then there was something else going on, such as a clog, and that just happened to force it out.

You're right about that gravity "law", though. :D But isn't your fill well above the tank? So having the bow up or down shouldn't really matter.

I suspect that there was initially a clog of some kind and it either worked it's way out (possibly from being wetted by the hose water and then sitting for a day, soaking), or there was a slight blockage in the vent line from having a dip in it. It either drained out by itself, slowly overnight, or putting the bow down helped. Check out your vent line and it's routing. Maybe it's just fine - but I've seen it enough times that's it's worthwhile to check.

His fill may be like mine. Mine is well above the tank, but the first several inches into it are level before it angles down toward the tank. If it's on the trailer angled up at all, that makes that first section of pipe uphill. I stuff about a foot of hose in there to the angled part before turning on the water to fill it up; otherwise most of the water gushes back out.

Ah, I see what you're saying. OK, that makes sense.

I made a short piece of hose to use to fill the water tank. I've seen way too many people stick the end of the marina hose into their holding tank pump out port that I'm not going to put it in my water inlet....

I bought a short hose with a reinforced female end (the type with a spring on the outside to prevent kinking) and cut it off about a foot from the end. I screw that on the hose and insert it into the fill. A side benefit is that I don't have to stand there holding the hose while the tank fills.

I made a second one I labeled "sewage" and use it to add water to the holding tank to flush it when I pump it out, so I'm not contributing to the problem.

ewwwww.

If the Marina doesn't have designated hoses please ask them to upgrade.

I'm glad I have water access at my slip but at the water / pump out area they have a brown garden hose for pump out flushing activities and a white hose for potable water.

Thanks guys for your input. Funny in my SR manual they spend more time on the hose than the actual fill process - even to the extent of explaining how one should drain the fill hose after using and how to do this by holding one end up....... Pretty funny.
