My 2000 340 DA has a water system issue. The boat was commissioned just last week and this is the first time I am using it.
Here are the issues:

  1. It seems that there is air in the system because it spurts water and air when I turn on the faucets
  2. i cleaned some "gunk" out of the screen that is connected to the water pump and that pump is in the engine compartment
  3. the water pump continues to run. It will run lightly when no water is needed and run harder when water is needed. In previous years it would run and shut off and turn on only when water is need

Anyone have any ideas what's happening here?

Thanks

I'm experiencing the exact same issue. I would think the only way air could get in is from the suction side of the pump. I check the connections form the tank to the pump so my next step is to change the valve diaphragm in the pump. The constant running of the pump is a symptom of not building up enough pressure to trip the pressure sensor. I suspect it is also causing the airation.

Just had this issue yesterday. Turns out my tank was near empty and the pump sucked up some air. The pump was just running away. would get some water and air when turning on faucets. Filled tank with water and pump still ran. After turning on cockpit sink, the pump re primed and a bun ch of air came out of the faucet. After bleeding all faucets pump ran and turned off as normal when it reached proper pressure.

I dealt with the same issue for 2 seasons. Finally gained access to the tank/pick up. The PVC elbow going into the tank with the pick up tube had a small crack in it. Replaced it, and it runs like a swiss watch now.

I am having same issue, mine is caused be the screen filter at the pump getting clogged with algea that must have settled at the bottom of my tank, I shock bleached it and I have cleaned it out for the third time. Hopping one more time and then we should be good.

unscrew the water line from the outlet side of the pump and turn the pump on. this is how to prime the pump if you suspect air in it. screw the water line back on while water is shooting out and you'll be primed.

First thing would be to check any fittings that were removed for winterization. This is most important if you have the push-in connectors. Remove them again, and reinsert. The pex tube should go into the fitting almost a full inch.

Is the hot water heater filled properly? The first thing a pump does is fill the hot water heater. Open the expansion valve and let the pump fill it till the water spurts out the overboard discharge.

Address those two things, then move on to the other suggestions. The gunk could be an issue - but that typically gives low flow, not aerated flow. But, you could also check/clean the aerators at each faucet (just like at home) - it's a good idea to do this once in a while, anyways.

Same issue last week with gunk clogging inlet filter. Emptied tank to 1/4 level and added "weak bleach" solution per sea ray manual and then filled tank with fresh water. Opened all the faucets both hot and cold till I got bleach solution flowing out, let the solution sit for 24 hours and then flushed tank twice. All fixed!

SO, here is the latest on my Water System issue:
1. I cleaned out the water tank with bleach and water mixture then ran that out of the tank and refilled it. Water appears clean now
2. We changed the water pump with a brand new pump

AFTER ALL THAT, the pump STILL RUNS and the system is filled with aeration still

where is this tank/pick up??? How do I find it???? YOU said the PVC elbow going into the tank with the pick up tube had a small crack in it ????

Process of elimination. Take your outflow lines out of the system. Start close all the valve and cap off any that do not have valves so that you only have the outflow line from the pump to the water tree. If it still does not operate correctly, your problem is isolated between the tank and the tree. If it does, start turning on or adding one line at a time into the system until your problem returns. That should be your problem line. Test all the lines this way even after you find the problem child. This way you will have done a full inspection and know the condition of all your lines and replace / repair what is needed. You should be able to do most of this just by turning tree valves off and on. Be sure to turn on one valve at a timer and find the outlet it supplies and run the water from that outlet until you get no air and can turn it off and the pump run up til it shuts off to be sure the line will hold the pressure. Good Luck !
