Water Separator / 3.0L

Has anyone installed (or thought about installing) a water separator on a 3.0L? I believe there’s only an inline paper fuel filter with the traditional setup. With all the ethanol talk these days, I’m wondering if a water separator would be a good investment. I think we’re only talking about $35-$40 for the filter & bracket. I’m fairly handy, but I’ve never messed with a fuel system before. Any thoughts?

John,
Run it by Mercruiser before you attempt to alter the fuel delivery system, as the fuel pumps are only capable of delivering fuel with their systems as designed.
I was going to add an inline spin on filter, but was advised against it by Merc, as their pumps (2005) would not deliver. :thumbsup:

On my 1996 175 with a 3 liter I had a spin on mounted in line. Worked great never had a problem. That 3 liter is very tolerant motor.
