Hey all,

I recently got my 1989 268da and its a great boat, but I seem to have a problem with the water pressure. If I leave the water system on, the pump runs and waters starts shooting out of the little hole I circled in red in the attachment. If I have a faucet on then it doesn't spray out.

I think that hose fitting is for shore water. Is water supposed to spray out of there? Or is my pump not turning off when it should?

Thanks for any help.

Hi, not sure about the litle hole but I had water seep out slowly around my fitting. I ended up putting an inline shutoff valve on the hose near the pump, within reach of an access area. Very rare that you'll ever use the hook-up unless you're moored long term somewhere.

The picture is indeed for your shore water.

I'm no expert but I would think the first question would be...What results do you get while not hooked up to the shore water?

The pump continually running may just be a symptom of a different problem. That water inlet is equipped with a pressure regulator. Its possible that has failed.

Shore power water hookups go bad periodically. Mine did the same thing but it started with a slow leak. I put a ball valve on mine and just closed it. A few months later it started leaking out of the little hole, so I just bought a new one. Found it on e-bay for $19.

The diaphram in your shore water hookup is shot. Mine did the same thing at start up this season. Just replace the shore water pressure regulator and all is good! Todd

I have a similar problem that just arose on my 300. The fresh water pump wont shut down when max pressure is achieved. I cant find any leaks any where. The pump is only a year old so I find it hard to believe its the pressure switch on the pump, but maybe. I crawled around the bildge with it running but couldnt find any leaks anywhere.

Does your pump have an adjustment screw on the inlet end of it?
How do you know "max presure is achieved?" Is your screen clean?
Any chance the strainer's housing is cracked allowing it to suck in air?

Why are you turning on your water pump when you are using shore water? We keep ours turned off when hooked up. The only time the pump is on is when we are using the water in the fresh water tank.

Me too!

The pressure from the municipal water should be more than enough to get it to all of your faucets.
The only time I turn the breaker for the "Fresh Water System" on is when I'm away from the dock.

I will ck my strainer for sucking air. Didnt really think of that. I am also gonna put a known good pump in and see if kicks off at max. pressure.
