Hello,

the fresh water intake on the port side of the motor, the t-handle appears to be closed, but on the other side, it appears to be open (running with the length of the pipe. I used my infrared temp. gun and confirmed the temps were the same on both sides... It is possible there both open, or why would one be closed and one open? It was like this when I bought the boat!

Regards,

Jim

I am confused. Depending on how your boat is equipped it could two thru hulls in the engine room but neither one is for the engine. If you have the manual or electric flush head but not the vaccuflush system the head will have dedicated thru hull. If you have the optional macerator it will have a thru hull. The cooling water for your engine comes in pickup in your outdrive.

J Levine, thanks for the reply. These are directly behind, on either side of the engine. Their light blue in color and about an inch long. I don't know what they could be then ... It looks like #10 in the drawing http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...LD+AND+S.+STEEL+EXH+ELBOW+(5.7L/5.7LX+BRAVO`)
But in the drawing, it appears #10 screwed in from the bottom, mine are screwed in from the top??? I'll take a closer look tonght, if it is a "plug" then it doesn't matter what direction there facing, as long as their tight!

That would be a drain plug. There should also be 1 on each side of the engine block (4 total). They are used for draining all of the water from your engine in winterizing. On some older engines the block plugs are metal and need a wrench to remove. Your plugs should screw in from the bottom so all water will drain.
