After changing out the batteries this morning, started my 2003 Sundancer 260 Mercruiser 5.0 MPI up. Observing the engine, noticed a streaming leak of water pissing out from the lower starboard side. I have included photos.
It looks like a circular hole about an 1/8" wide

About the size of a screw hole. For now, I set a screw with some marine sealant there. The water leak has subsided but is dripping.
The boat is in the slip.
Anyone have any idea what this could be and the repair involved?
I am doing research on this forum as well.
Thanks in advance.

Need more info on where the hole is. Is it in the block or in the manifold or is it in some cooler that is raw water cooled that finally gave out?

EDIT: My post was pointless. Here I thought it was coming from an engine that was next to the one pictured. Flowing left to right not squirting straight up. o_O

Good luck with the repair.

Hopefully just a drain plug that came out?? Unfortunately after looking at the picks, it looks like something "broke thru" and you'll need to replace the defective part?

More photos.
Trying to find what this apparatus is called. It is located below the alternator and is where the leak sprung from. You can see the screw with black marine silicone that I inserted as a temporary fix. Maybe this entire apparatus is what I would have to replace?

This is a view looking at the engine. The apparatus where the leak sprang from is on the left side as you look at the photo where the black arrow is and is below the alternator.

Here is a close up look of the leak when it happened.

Any help/solutions are much appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks very much that's it! Now to see if there any options to seal the crack. Marinetex maybe?
That cool fuel module looks to be corroded from the inside out. You should really consider replacing it regardless of the cost to ensure no other problems down the road that could possibly ruin your weekend or entire season, not to mention jeopardizing the safety of yourself, you family or guest. It is 20 years old...

Mitch,
Very sage advice from a wise man. I am ordering a new one today.
It looks to be a fairly simple install.
Thanks my friend and to all who replied..

Before you spend $2k on a new cool fuel, there are other options you should look into.

1. Mercruiser has been replacing some of these units under warranty - even really old ones, the paint peals from inside and clogs up the fuel system.
2. If yours is not covered by the warranty there are refurbished units available and sources other than directly from Mercury/Quicksilver. $2k is not a cheap part, I would do some checking around, starting with these folks:

You can replace just the housing or top cap (which appears that is where the leak is on yours). 20 years in salt water maybe your unit is in need of a complete replacement, but if not a cap is a lot better than the whole unit.

This guy refurbished his units using the S & J parts.

Boy, if the cool fuel module is corroded to the point that leaks are springing on the outside of it, I'd be checking the other coolers (oil, power steering), and the manifolds/risers. Realizing the cool fuel is aluminum, and the other items are brass and cast iron, respectively, I'd still want to be sure.
