Hello guys, having some water in the engine compartment of my seary240 sundance lately.
The water is kept on ground.
I removed all the water last time, it was just below the engine and there was 20 to 30 liters. Did not try to taste it to see if it was salty or not.
Anyway, I did not use the boat for a week and when I came back there was water again ( less than the last time but still)
I do not know if some of you are familiar with the sundnacer 240 but basically you have the engine compartment and there is a "hole" at the bottom of the forward dividing hole. I guess the water comes from that hole but I cannot understand where is the source.

Thank you for your tips and help.

Can you re-read and clarify?

??? "The water is kept on ground"

Is it correct to assume that the boat is kept in the water?

That "hole" just allows water to drain aft.

It may help to know what year your boat is.

Taste the water then let us know - it will save a lot of guessing. Did it rain during the period you were away?

In the meantime, check the condition of the shift and driveshaft bellows.

My bad :(

oat is kept on the ground. Boat is from 2007.
It did not rain.

Usually when I take the boat, there is almost no water in the compartment, then I go for theday and when I come back I find 20 to 30 liters in the compartment.
Looks like the water accumulates at the front and when there is some pitch it runs at the back.
I will taste it but what surprises me the most is the quantity removed which is huge to me.

You probably know your boat better than me, but there shouldn't be any thru-hulls any farther forward than main section of the bilge - basically, where you can step down into the bilge. Also, I think your fresh water holding tank is under the v-berth cushion? However, the "forward" bilge (basically from your step down area and forward) is sealed from the engine bilge - you can see the bulkhead under the steps. Now, could there be a pinhole in that bulkhead... maybe. But most likely the issue is somewhere in the engine bilge.

The reason you may see water running aft when you step on the boat and open the hatch could simply be that's where the water was laying, because of the pitch of the boat just before you opened things up. It would collect under the fuel tank.

You're just going to have play detective and figure things out... transom seal, engine hoses, garboard drain, transducer, water heater (both salt and fresh, by the way, can leak out), etc, etc.

Thanks for the inputs. I will first taste that water that collects below the engine in the bilge.

I am Sorry but I do not understand your second paragraph.

After every ride, I remove the water hence when I take the boat for the next use, there is no water in the bilge. And when I come back, there is again water in the bilge.
Besides, at some point the boat was left on water and there was no water found in the bilge even after some prolonged time.
It is obvious that running it causes the water to appear.

I will try to run it at idle for an hour and see if water appears or not.

Imagine... the boat is sitting in the water and there is some water collected in the middle of the boat. When you step on the boat, the water drains aft because of your weight.

RN pay less attention to the 2nd paragraph and more to the 3rd, like in the detective part
