Is it normal for water to run out of the gasket where the two halves of the outdrive are bolted together?

Water was literally pouring out of here. Plus when I pulled the plug water drained for 3-4 mins.

Absolutely not normal.

Is that where to upper and lower unit are joined or where the entire drive bolts to the gimbal housing?

OK, so that’s where the drive bolts to the gimbal housing.

Water should not enter or exit at that joint.

Get a gasket kit. A service manual is a good idea too and make sure that the shifter is in forward prior to removing the drive.

Impeller and bellows were all replaced in July. Is this a shop screw up?

I don’t know about screw up since shit happens but I’d definitely speak to them about it.

Good questions are did it leak immediately upon being repaired if you know?

Did they test run it out of the water on muffs to see if everything was kosher? If so that leak would have been apparent.

Some questions for you:

Water was pouring out of that joint when running, yes?

Which plug did you remove that caused water to drain for 3-4 minutes?

They supposedly water tested as there was also water pouring in at top of stern drive. And they caulked around drive and that stopped it temporarily till engine is pulled to replace trim lines.

Noticed trail of water coming from boat ramp to parking lot. 100 feet maybe. Then drove 20 mins an took out the hull plug at under outdrive. Enough water was getting in somewhere to cause debris and trim oil to coat the bottom of ski locker.

It sounds like your transom might be soft and rotted if water is pouring in at the top of the drive and caulking stopped it. If you are lucky and its not soft, a complete transom seal kit might fix it. They have to take things all apart to install the trim sender wires (I assume that is what you mean by trim lines?) so its a good time to check everything out.

One of the trim pump lines has a pinhole leak. It’s inaccessible without pulling the engine. Plan was to get through what is left of the season and handle things in the fall. Boat was in the shop from May 19 - mid July. I talked to mechanic already, sent him a video of the leak and he thinks maybe an exhaust gasket leak….

Just not sure I can keep trusting the same shop. After 6 boat bucks I anticipated that they’d have gone through everything.

Yikes. $6,000 is a lot of money on repairs, and should have funded an entire new outdrive. What did they do for that?
