Spent last weekend getting her ready to go for the season. Used 3M cleaner wax with good results. Will most likely hit some areas on the bow with a heavier compound later in the season. It's fine for now but just want a little more pop. Hull sides are great. First i'll show you the good...

Now for the annoying carpet backing stuck to the nonskid. The carpet is in desperate need of replacement and am looking into options. In the meantime i was going to run naked as I like the clean look, but dread always cleaning up dirty footprints. Anyway when I pulled the carpet this is what i have to deal with. Most areas came up with aggressive scrubbing but I have a few stubborn areas that just wont come up. I've tried quite a few things with minimal success. Ths include: Non skid cleaner, soft scrub, bar keepers friend with a medium scrubbing pad, and even a 3M eraser wheel. Any other ideas to get this gonorrhea of the carpet off my boat?!?!?!

Shurhold has a brush attachment for their buffer for non slip surfaces I wonder if some thing like that would remove the backing.

Thanks all. The pictures of the cockpit are from when I first started. It is much better now and I only have 3 areas of really adhered stuff. I'll try a compound this weekend. Hopefully that puts a dent in it.

Someone posted that "Purple Power" full strength worked well. You can get it at AZ or Advance...IF the carpet itself looks OK, you can extend its life using "Ultra 1000" from Lowe's (roofing dept). It's a white, silicone compound that has the consistency of mayonaise and you paint it on over the black.

Hull looks great.

Try a white rag, soaked in acetone, and lay it on the affected area for a few minutes. See if it at least softens it up a little. You won't damage the gelcoat.

Your boat looks great! With regard to the backing stuck to the floor. Mine came off a lot easier after I let it stay wet for a while and then used simple green and a stiff brush. Maybe mine was not as bad. Good Luck with it.

Hull looks great! It will wear off eventually, any sooner requires some good old fashioned elbow grease. my past 2 boats went through the dreaded black backing failure. I tossed the carpet, and have not looked back. Naked is so much easier to maintain

I used Spray Nine and a scrub brush. Alternatively, a cleanser like Comet will do the trick.

maybe you could find a stiff bristle brush that would fit in a drill and use it with a strong solvent and/or an abrasive compound........that may be more effective that trying to remove it by hand....

Thanks Guys. When i'm back to the boat this weekend i'm going to try and go with something to soften it up. I think i'll start with the Purple power, move to comet (I used barkeeper friend with a little success but maybe there is a little more abrasive quality to comet), and end with acetone if need be. If all that fails I will look into a pad for the porter cable and a heavy duty compound.

Its seems like you have lots of options to try just be careful with the compound. It can buff the antiskid right off. The exterior looks beautiful!

That diamond pattern non skid is tough stuff though. I've polished to upper deck on the 280 Sundancer (Same pattern) and it shines up beautifully (no issues of burning off the pattern). However, my suggestion is to do this a last ditch effort. It was dangerously slippery walking for the first few weeks with TopSiders.

Agree. That's probably the thickest gelcoat on the boat.

Again guys thanks for all of the suggestions. Will work on t this weekend and let you know what works best.

Got a call from the marina and text from one of the yard guys letting me know she's in. Was even nice enough to send a pic. Let the 2015 season begin!

I use a cheep low presure power washer from Harbor Fright took off 90% of black first try. When it gets very wet and sits a wile comes off easy.

with regard tot he backing issue with the carpet, has anyone used flex seal?

I think its been done but have not heard results. I htought of doing this, and still may give it a try since I will be replacing the carpet regardless of out come. Looks like there is some sort of roll on sealant suggested above that i may give a shot on the two larger pieces of carpet.
