I just purchased a 2005 280 Sundancer with 30 hrs. My question is whether i should get the warranty. My options are Marine Max 3yr Legacy for $3300, 2 yr for $2300, or 1 yr for $1900. These are supposed to cover the whole boat. Another option is engine only from Sea Ray also would be $2480 for 2yrs. These all seem very high to me. Any suggestions? Can I somehow get a warranty from Mercruiser on the engines? The original warranty of 2 yrs has expired on the engines.

Silly question but if the boat is a 2005 with 2 year warrenty, how are they expired already?

Yes, that type of protection is available directly from Mercury. It's what I purchased for my boat to cover the engine and outdrive. Your dealer should be able to give you costs and explain the various choices you have. I purchased an additional 4 years coverage for mine so together with the factory warranty they are covered for the next six years. That warranty is also a plus when it comes times to re-sell since the new owner can transfer the warranty to themselves for $50.
