Wanted: Raymarine RN 300 GPS

These units seem to have a terrible track record. Mine started getting "wonky" 5yrs ago. I decided to get a RayStar 125 which is a GPS that looks like it's just an antenna. It just needs 12vt power and two lines joined into your "SeaTalk" network to give position information to your plotter and anything else on the network (such as a newer model VHF radio with the emergency button). Here's the details...

Apparently you can program your RN300 to receive the position information from the new GPS and use it as a "repeater". I didn't bother since part of my issues with the old unit was it just deciding to shut down from time to time.

I have 2 issues with my unit. 1, The right half of the screen cannot be seen. So it is impossible for me to scroll through the screens to set up the unit as a slave. 2. My unit is frozen and will not cycle or power down. I have to pull the power plug from the back to power down. So I am not even able to use it.

As previously said, I didn't bother using mine as a repeater. It just covers the hole that would be there if it were removed. The RayStar 125 provides fix info for my plotter and VHF radio without issues. The sun cover never comes off the old RN300 now, plus I didn't need to change anything on my dash - only the "puck" type antenna on top of the arch.

Best of luck!

I have an RN 300 from my 2002 310 Sea Ray. I purchased the boat used last summer. The previous owner said he never used it on Lake of the Ozarks. I like Garmin equipment so I removed the 300 last summer. It was in working condition when I removed it. I have the unit and antenna, no wires, if that will help you. Make me an offer. Russ
