It's a remote thing.

I want a remote at my helm that has a digital display. A buddy will sell me a never used 2" remote (Clarion m201RCS), but it is not compatible with my XMD1.

I cannot seem to find any manufacturer's that are still doing a digital display remote that will fit in a 2" hole and the space at my helm will not allow for a bigger remote.

Hope that makes sense.

Randy.....I think I have one in storage...took it out of my other ray, that I sold....will check for you tomorrow....also have the AMP and 6 or 10 disc changer......give me a call tomorrow afternoon around 6 eastern....will let you know.....

Not yet.

I still haven't found an XMD2 to replace it. Looks like I will be doing a complete replacement of the head unit and helm remote over the winter and will have one then.

I went to a non digital remote. why would sea ray make the dash inset specific to a remote size?

I thought the m201 was compatible with a XMD1? i saw a clarion remote cross ref chart and it said was compatible. I just found & bought a new M201 and the specs posted also said compatible w/ xmd1. did you try it?

The cross reference chart that I saw denoted that the remote would control the head unit, but the display would NOT work. I did plug the M201 into my XMD1 and it did just that. The screen was blank. This, for me is no better than what I already have.

Here's a picture of my helm. Note the stereo remote under the RL80CRC. There just isn't a whole lot of room to enlarge that hole for a bigger remote.

The M201 would drop right into that hole and give me a digital display along with it.....if only I could find a head unit to go with it.

ok, thanks. must have misread the chart. the m201rcs I ordered a couple days ago should be arriving in the mail any day. Guess I'll put it right back up on ebay.

for what it's worth, the M301rc is oval but has the same size round base as your original remote so it should drop right in and uses the same cables. The display will work with an XMD3 (not sure about XMD2) and you could mount it on an angle and it should fit and look fine. At an angle it might even be easier to read. My polarized glasses make it a pain to read unless you are right in front of it...

If your still interested I have one available it's off my dads boat. He also has the M201RCS remote. On the remote the display goes blank, but fully functional. You press on it and the display becomes visible. PM me and let me know if your still interested.
