Folks,
I hoping I can find an actuator motor for the windshield vent on my '97 330 Express.
Probably not vessel specific, but I'm not sure.

Otherwise, I may see if a motor shop can rebuild it.

Thanks,

I recently replaced my OEM actuator for $108 from Progressive Automations…….look for mini linear actuators, PA-14. They are an online company and very good to work with.

I recently purchased a new one straight from the manufacturer on line,. Just over $100. The Marina wanted $456. When I get home I will pull the invoice. You will need to give them a little info to match it up.

Agreed- don't bother with anyone else IMO. These guys and their products are first rate.

Thanks Frank and the other gentlemen!

Do you remember the specs on the PA-14 you bought. Looks like there are options for Stroke, Force, and Speed.

My boat is a 450DA and I am sure the stroke is longer than your 330EC would be. My boat is kept at a Sea Ray dealer's marina and their parts guy helped me with the OEM specs for the DANA actuator that came on the boat which was for a 6" stroke; 16" LOA extended and 25# force.

In talking with the PA people on the phone, they do not recommend the PA-14 for a wet environment but at a cost of 1/4th the OEM actuator I figured I'd try one. In doing my home work on their site, (click on PDF then click on the green box for specifications) I found that they also have a boot which is a molded black plastic cover for the motor end and the gland end that covers all the gasketing on their actuators. Here is what I ordered…but I am certain that this is too long a stroke for a 330EC:

Item Sku Qty Subtotal
Actuator Rubber Boot for PA-14 Models AC-05 1 $12.50
Mini Linear Actuator
Stroke
6 inch
Force
35 lbs
Speed
2.00"/sec
PA-14-6-35 1 $108.99
Subtotal $121.49
Shipping $15.16

In looking at the parts list for a 330EC it appears that you might need a 4" stroke, but the description is so abbreviated that I can't tell exactly what you need. I
think you need to take your actuator loose from the vent and cycle it manually to check the stoke needed and the overall length to open the vent all the way.

Frank,
Thank you for the details. I will remove the actuator this week and take some measurements. The motor is dead, so I cannot power cycle it, but I'm sure I can determine the length of the stroke by measuring the actuator and how far the window opens.

You'll have some flexibility with the stroke (1/2"-1" either way) but don't go to high on the force lbs limit as you will risk breaking the glass when closing it. Go low as possible on that part of the replacement. FYI, I have the same model as what Frank specified above with the rubber boot on it. 3 years on it and works reliably.

If you have the OEM actuator, there is a detailed mfg.'s label on then. You should be able to use the part no and other info there to at least cross the OEM model to one from another linear actuator producer. From there you can get exact specs.

225 lbs of force is way too much for a glass panel unless it is a perfect fit and the actuator limits out at the precise instant the glass panel shuts……….be careful.

Agreed. Sounds like one to move some serious weight, not open & close the vent window. I have learned a long time ago that it often doesn't pay to try to go cheap on certain things.

I have actually used progressive automations on 2 windshield vents and one engine hatch. Not one problem ever shipping is promp and delivered as promised.
