Wanting to purchase a wall mount garage Wet/Dry Vacuum for my slip. Thought being, I would mount it to a roof support column where the column is square metal (2x2 I think, maybe 1.5x1.5). Has anyone done this in the past? How did you mount to the metal support columns? I am thinking some type of square U-bolt. What vacuum did you buy? Oh, you can see the support columns in the background of my signature picture.

Tried this in a garage. Issue is the Head pressure. They won't have much suction when mounted so high above. Maybe you can find something that will work but It didn't for us.

The only thing I have mounted to our columns has been a hose reel. Large stainless hose clamps worked well for that. U-bolts would have also worked but, based on laziness, I chose the method that did not require any measuring, cutting, drilling, etc...

We recently bought a Dyson handheld rechargeable that works great. Not as much power as a Shop-Vac but plenty powerful enough to clean up any messes. I think we paid about $400 and it has a wall mount included. Quite a bit more than a Shop-Vac but if all else fails with the Shop-Vac then this might be an option. We bought it for home use (steps, cushions, small clean-up jobs) but could use it on the boat.

I would be afraid that a wall mount vacuum would be an easy target for a thief....

Its all a risk and anything on the dock is a easy target. Not sure how you all do it in other areas of the country but round here we build out the slip with fridges, tables, couches, tv's, fans, grills, counters with sinks, outdoor showers and....wall mounted vacuums. Most thefts are kids looking for booze. Luckily, knock on wood, I've only had my Dos Equis cleaned out of the fridge one time over the last 5 yrs....although they were nice enough to leave the miller light. Its bound to happen and anything I put on the dock is something that may or may not be there next time.

Forgive the side track.....would love to see some "built out slips" in it's own thread.

The idea of a wet/dry vac permanently mounted to an upright support of your slip sounds like a good idea. I always keep a small wet/dry vac in my engine room for clean ups or sucking that last bit of water out of the bilge.

Done! Thought I would share some pics. Let's see how Imgur compares to Photobucket.
