I came across this video...

Now, I have the same boat. I do not know if this one has a generator or not but my boat in the slings full fuel empty waste and water weighs 18,000 lbs +.... how in the hell did the SUV even move this thing let alone stop it?

I would classify a suburban as a truck rather than SUV. Couldn't tell if it was a 2500 series, but anyone who has ever owned a 'burb is not surprised here. They are one of the best tow vehicles out there. Now to say he was over the limit of the truck would be an understatement.

Lookng at the video again, I think it is a 2500 series 'burb.

And some of those 2500 series had diesels as well, and the diesel "burbs" were towing machines! However, none of this help for stopping!! We can only hope and assume that trailer had reeeeally good brakes!!

In Australia we can tow only to the weight of the tow vehicle :wow:

This is America and we can do anything. What is much more scarey to me are the local construction companies hauling huge backhoe loaders with a one ton truck. Let's not forget the landscapers hauling palates of stone so heavy the axle on the overloaded trailer is bowing and the trucks suspension is pushed to the bump stops. At least the boat guy isn't moving that load everyday.

Based on body style, the Burb in that video wouldn't have a diesel (I have one of the last years for the diesel). But, it would likely have at least the 6.0L or (hopefully) the 8.1L as I absolutely can't imagine the 6.0L getting it done. Even so, 18K+ (20K w/trailer!) is very much over the limits. But, we also don't know how long of a tow it was - maybe it was only a short relocate from one marina to another. Either way... I've taking pictures of my boat hooked up to my Burb and my 260DA makes it look like a toy... That 340 absolutely dwarfs it!

EDIT: Looked a little closer at the video. Scott is definitely right; it's a 3/4 ton - it's got 8-lug wheels.

I had a 1998 3500 with the 7.4(?)- 454 Vortek in a 4x4 GMC PU and that would move a house. I towed a 34' Airstream to Florida from Ohio and I had no problem even in the mountains. Came back with a 36' toyhauler Travel Trailer loaded with Brothers items as he was moving back and again no problems. The gas mileage was terrible but if I kept it 60-65 I was about 9mpg. I had electric brakes.
I wouldnt be affraid to tow that boat if it was legal........burbs were built on truck frames.

Agree with Dennis: No diesels in that body style as well as no 3500. Bleeping Government Motors is gutting the Suburban as the highest new Suburban rating is 9600 lbs.

As for the video: Suburbans are a towing monster (2500) and are capable of far exceeding mfg limits. (not an endorsement to do so)
