WA State boaters ... SNOW

December 27, 1996 piles of snow collapsed the roof at the Port Orchard Marina sinking 45 boats. Story in the Seattle Times on December 28, 1996. Most of the boats were 30 footers or longer. Don't look up! Over here in N. Idaho (outside of Spokane, it's coming down quite steady. My boat is in heated/covered storage in Spokane. I hope the roof is stressed for this.

Our sister in law's parents are here in NJ visiting since last week. I made a comment about how they should be used to the snow and they said they hardly ever get snow. I was surprised. He said they don't even own a snow shovel.

Just a few inches of snow can easily bring the Great Northwest to a standstill.

First of all, snow, is generally a rare occurrence, maybe, a few inches, once or twice a year.

The air temperature is never severe. The temperature floats or cycles, between the mid twenties and thirties, so the snow partially melts and then freezes again.

Consequently, driving, cycles between so so (dry snow) and very hazardous (black ice).

That condition, coupled with the terrain, much of the region is either perched on, or, near a slope, many very steep, makes driving, with only a few inches of snow, fairly unique.

I lived in Chicago for three years, serious snow and cold, but, flat as a pancake, and seriously cold, for months, dry snow, dry highways and streets. Completely different driving conditions.

I have to admit.... I don't have one either :smt009

When we lived in the Rocky Mountain states I had a big old snow blower and shovels for this stuff..... now all I have is a broom...... about as good as a fart in a wind storm for this.

Its just so uncommon.... I don't even know if the hardware stores have snow shovels.

I'll come over and shovel your driveway... wait... I'm not union... can't do it... hands are tied.

Oh, BTW..... we now have 8" of snow, about 1/4"-1/2" of ice on top of that from the freezing rain this morning and now its snowing again. smileyvault-wtf.gif

It's slicker than snot on an avocado seed t2516.gif

Took 2.5 hr to go 13mi home lastnight. Mostly due to idiot drivers; partially because of the terrain, the many trees that fell over due to ice, and some due to the fact that a significant portion of folks are without power.

Chris, Do you know Seapuppy aka Steve a Baysinker owner or SomeSailor aka Mike out there ??

Not only does your weather SUCK out here, the traffic is MISERABLE.

I need to head south.

We drove to Spokane yesterday morning to attend a Gonzaga Univ basketball game. It was snowing/raining here when we left, snowed all the way to Spokane and it took us four hours to get there (normally it's about 2.5 hours) and the snow didn't quit until evening. Gonzaga won the game so the drive was worth it. We left this morning and stopped at a casino for lunch and some slot play. I turned $28 into $35 then cashed out. GW turned $40 into $55 so she cashed out and we left for home.

It's now 26* and raining here. The scanner is going crazy with rollovers, auto accidents, etc. We're sitting here in front of the fire just relaxing.
