Has anyone added a volume control to turn down the interior while the exterior speaker still rock>?

I clarion head unit doesnt allow control and i heard you could put a volume control so that the wife could be sleeping while the party continues !!!

Not sure if it is the same thing but we bought one from Radio Shack for our house. It has three buttons that you push in depending on which speakers you want to play; A (plays surrond sound inside) B (plays outdoor speakers) and C (plays both). If that is what you are talking about we have used it for five years with no problems and it was really easy to set up.

You do not have your boat information in your signature but I assume you are talking about the 38 or did you upsize

My Clarion unit has built in controls to do just that. If your doesn't then visit a Radio Shack store. They can fix you up with what you need.

Does your stereo have a fader control ? If I set my fader completely to "rear" only the cockpit speakers are audible.

My fault let me clarify-
I have a clarion m455 in a 38 da - which has a factory amp installed that powered the exterior speakers

I cannot control the interior speakers which are powered by the clarion head units built in amp...or the clarion amp that powers the exterior of the boat seperately- so what happens is when you are crankn the tunes they sound great outside the boat---- as its a high power amp and sub..etc but the little speakers inside the boat are way maxed out and distorted- sounding terrible ...so i was thinking to have a way to turn just the interior ( head united amplified speakers) down....

Thoughts?-- I think a Radio shack or niles volume type contrlol would work on just the interior speakers or i could upgrade the head unit [and ger sirus while i am at it]

i also figured out that searay wired the amp the the main panel- which caused the lights to flicker inside the cabin when the bass hits so i need a direct wire to a battery...

You might want to consider adding an amplifier to your inside speakers. If you do this, you can enable the high pass crossover to eliminate the bass to the speakers as well as add clean power to your speakers. The issue you have now is that the amplifier is far more powerful than your head unit power. This means that your amplifier is working fine, but your head unit is trying too hard to make power. The power in the amplifer is far superior to the power in the head unit.

Also, your amplifier should be wired directly to your battery, and if you still experience the light flicker (which is very probable), you can add a 1 or 2 Farad capacitor which will help eliminate the flicker. You can find the capacitor anywhere that sells Car Audio, and should be about $150.

In my 2003 380, I have an amp for cockpit and one for inside

Ther are rocker switches to have inside on/off, ouside on/off or both on/off.

If you want different volume levels for each location all the time, you can adjust the gain on the amp.

To have variable control with two amps that might be a little tricky but I would think it can be done via radio shack etc.

Is it using the front/back fader for the cabin/cockpit? I've got it setup that way. The 'rear' speakers are driven from the radio head unit using the line-out connection for the rear. The cabin speakers come straight off the head unit using it's front speaker-out connections. Works pretty well. But if the front speaker outs aren't enough to drive the cabin speakers then just add another small amp. Using the head unit's fader front/back keeps the controls simple.

Try this, take your head unit out and make sure that Sea Ray installed the RCA cable/cables from your head unit to the amp on the correct set of pre-amp outputs. One set is Fadeable the other is not. You should be able to use the built in fader control to send signal either to the front (Cabin), the rear (Cockpit), or both. I have fixed/tuned three brand new Sundancers and you wouldn't believe some of the rookie mistakes they had made in connecting/setting the 12v audio equipment. You should not need to buy anything extra. Feel free to contact me and I can walk you through your setup pretty quickly.

Try Sheilds Electronic Supply. I bought one last year ($60or so) & used it on a stereo I had in the garage. Basically you can put it in line with which ever speakers you want to control. Looks & works like a dimmer switch in you home. This isn't a weather resistant or weather proof attenuator so it would have to be protected from the elements. Scott

there should be fader control on radio but when "Z" feature is ON
all manual controls are disabled
You need to press "z" button few times to turn it off (no z+ on display)

Need to toss out a big SHOUTOUT to Captain Dan of "Cocktail Time". He was spot on with his diagnosis and suggested rewiring of the RCA cables. Been dealing with this for 6 plus years. Switched up the RCA cables from the main unit to the 2 channel amp in the mid-berth and SUCCESS. Felt like a little kid after the fix...playing with the fader to go from cabin to cockpit. Man is wise beyond words. Those of you who purchased extra parts...nice contribution to your local economy. Thx again Dan!

Best,
