I'm not sure if I have a charging issue or not. I have a 2001 Sundancer with 3126 Cats when I first start the boat the Voltmeters move to maybe 10.5 or 11 volts for both engines after several minutes of idling around 4 or 5 the voltmeter will jump to normal range and then vacilate back to 10.5 or 11 again for both motors. This will continue for several minutes with both Voltmeters vacilating between 10.5 and 11 and normal range. Then after maybe 9 or 10 minutes or after idling out of my no wake area and increasing RPMS the volt meter increases to normal range and remains there consistently regardless if I slow back down to an idle speed or not.

This seems very odd to me but so far has not had any impact on battery drain or starting. Since it happens on both engines and pretty much in sync i.e. they both rise and fall fairly close to the same times does this indicate an area to start investigating? I talked to the local MarineMax dealer and was advised to contact Cat so I thought I would ask the forum.

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Dennis

What you have going on is the fuel heaters. What you see happening is normal.

Dom,

I have been told that it is a cycling of electric resistance heaters that actually preheat the intake air for better cold weather combustion. Are there actually "fuel" heaters on our 3126's?
