I would like to take my boat to Annapolis for a single night. I thought about anchoring out somewhere close and catching the taxi but I'm not sure of the "rules" down there. It looks like there are a lot of mooring balls in the creeks nearby where the taxis services. Are these public ( doubt it ) or private? Is there any place good to anchor and catch the taxi? What are the rules for anchoring near the mooring balls? I am only looking for a single night and the marinas have a 2 night min. Can anyone fill me in on the "how to" when visiting Annapolis by boat and anchoring out.

Thanks,
Scott

The mooring balls and downtown docks are public, first come, first serve. I believes it $26/day for the mooring balls not sure what the dock rates are. You can call the water taxi via VHF or by phone and they will pick you up.

I would strongly recommend docking right at the Annapolis City Dock. Still first come - get there about 11:00am. You'll pay a little more, but with the cost of the water taxi (x2) , it'll be close to the same. You can walk right to everything.

So it looks like there are slips and then just the dock to tie up to (Google maps view) aka ego alley. Is that all "city docking" with electric? I would prefer to be right there at the dock for convenience so if I can figure out where to put the boat in there I would like to do that.

The city docks are located on Ego Alley, usually there are more open slips than docks to tie up all depending on when you arrive. All have utilities.

I did this trip and had no problems during the week....school should be starting next week and boating traffic drops. Other suggestion is to call the marina (with two night min) and see if they will give you a spot. Some places say two nights to reserve, but if they are not full, they will take you.
Hope you have a great time....we stayed at Ego Alley last time.

Well the timing for this will be terrible. It is the Saturday of the Labor Day weekend so I'm not sure what to expect. I will shoot for some dock space but would be happy if we can just get a place to anchor that weekend.

You can anchor just OUTSIDE of Spa Creek for free. Water Taxi will still pick you up and take you back. Not as nice or convenient as getting a slip at the new city docks, but a good option if they're full.

You will see many boats anchored there on a holiday weekend, but you should find room.

Keep in mind that you will be more exposed to the wind outside of Spa Creek, so anchor accordingly.

Thanks everyone for the info. Is there a dedicated dinghy dock there? I don't currently have a dinghy but its possible I might have one by then.

You can pull up and tie your dingy right at the very end of ego alley - there are steps down to the water - alot of dingys lined up there, can't miss it
