@Roger Williams - I have similar problems on the rear cockpit backrest upholstery where pulled apart at the seam:
I found this YouTube video which I thought was pretty well done and broke the repair down to some easy to follow steps:

Here it is after the repair:
I was able to to the repair with the cushion in place ... not having to remove or take apart anything. I did it on a warm day where the upholstery had been in the sun and warmed up.
It's not perfect by any means ... but given that is the only part where my upholstery was pulling apart - this should help me get a couple more seasons out of it before having to shell out big $$$$ for a complete re upholstery.
