Couple of videos of our run north in my 290 about 8-12 miles offshore from St. Helena Sound near Dataw Island, SC to the Charleston sea buoy on Memorial Day. We used the autopilot pretty much the entire 60 mile run, making for a very enjoyable trip. Seas were 2' most of the way and it was a beautiful day. Sorry for the jiggle; I was trying to run slow to reduce the bounce, but the camera still moved quite a bit.

Cool video. Thank you for posting it.

I need to update my definition of 2' seas.

I think I need to do so also, update my definition? My eyes must be out of Calibration? Maybe the two foot seas were not in the video shown here? :smt043:smt043:smt043

23mph seems like a nice cruising speed for the 290. I'm trying to find the sweet spot for cruising my 270/290. It performs awesome at 3800rpms but drinks gas big time at 27-30mph, Mike.

I usually cruise a little faster, probably between 26 mph and 27 at 3500 rpm. I had her going 23 in the video to ease the wave action on my passengers and the 270 behind me. The Flo Scan that day showed around 1.3 mpg at 23 mph. At cruise I'll usually average around 1.6 mpg.

Thank's for the info Sadler....I'll try 3500rpms. Are you running fuel injection? I think my 4bbl opens at about 3700rpms. I roughly figured about 1.5mpg at best on plane....cruising at 1400rpms/6mph is the ecomomy ride for me, Mike.

No, mine is a pre fuel injection model. Yea, we do a lot of trawler speeds as well. The flo Scan will show 3 mpg at 12-1400 rpm. I'm also pulling with an Excursion. 2005 4x4 V10.

Cruising update.....26mph at 3600rpms seems ideal for my 270 with no tabs but only two of us. With 4 or 5 people it takes 3800rpms for the same cruise speed. I'm sure the Bravo III provides more push than the Bravo1 at the same rpms, Mike.

I see 2 ft seas. There is a slight ground swell going, smooth rollers, with a long wave period.

I guess if your looking for a 2 ft chop, then your eye can could see the wave height. Remember a 2 ft sea is 1 ft above and 1 ft below mean water level.

When people tell me they have been out in 10 ft seas I just nod my head and say yea...right. When I go to the Bahamas my sea height requirement is less than 4 ft, or I don't go....depending on the wave period!
