vibration problems

just started today.....engine vibrates so much you have to back off....not sure what problem could be ran fine last weekend. engine is not missing and shifts fine...just major vibration...i have a 2006 340 DA with twin 8.1 horizon v drives... any help would be appreciated...not sure but might still be under warranty. will check monday

Get under the boat and look at your props and shafts.........you picked up something that has now wrapped itself around something. I'm betting on a plastic bag from a sack of ice.

I have seen this problem twice. Once was a piece of line from a crab pot wrapped around the shaft. The other was a broken shaft. Keep your fingers crossed that it is something wrapped like Frank says. The second scenario is inherently more expensive to correct.

i went under and didnt find anythign wrapped but found the prop is bent somewhat...dont remember hitting anything but who knows...i am hoping it can be repaired since it is just bent and not broke off

It can be repaired. Might want to have both scanned.

Your bent prop is your problem. Get it fixed and the problem should go away.

While you're getting them looked at/straightened, be sure to inform the prop guy that your props are not the same pitch. They come from the factory with 1/2" differential in pitch. This is because both engines run in the standard direction and the props spin opposite one another. In order to make this happen, one transmission runs in reverse. Due to the design of the transmissions, the gearing is different in forward from reverse, so, to match the port to stbd, the props are different pitches. My final match was: 22.5 pitch on the port and 21.4 on stbd.

Since I don't own an inboard I am a bit out of my league here but if you do bend a prop is it also possible you can bend the shaft and should that be checked out as well?
