RAY220 VHF/Hailer keeps scanning regardless of what I do.

Have followed manufacturer's recommended procedures including the factory reset.

Turning the radio back on while depressing the Function and 16/9 buttons and still starts scanning shortly thereafter.

If you have knowledge and know what to do, please respond, otherwise keep surfing.

Since it's a 2001 am I just better off to replace it with a new one?

Replace it. When thay were new, Raymarine VHF radios were mediocre. Icom generally test out to be the best, with Standard Horizon just a tiny tick behind Icom. The you generally find everyone else pretty far back. Well, everyone else except for Uniden. They usually test out dead last.

My Ray started acting up this weekend, so I relied on my Icom handheld. If I can get an Icom that fits, that's my first choice, otherwise I'll get a Standard.

Best regards,
Frank

Replace it. Not worth repairing. As mentioned. Ray radios are mediocre. Look on any party, charter, commercial boat. Most are Icom/Standard. I have one of each in my pilothouse.

Any info on installing it in the same location as the Raytheon 230?
Mine just died, be nice to find one that had the same dimensions.

Some VHF's have an onboard battery that keeps certain functions alive when the radio is off, like remembering to power up on channel 16. If that battery dies (think in terms of a watch battery), then the VHF can do screwy things lie search but never find. To access the battery means cracking the case and soldering a new battery in.

Personally, I wouldn't invest a minimum service charge in a a Raymarine or Raytheon. The money is better invested in a real marine radio like a Standard or Icom.

Anyone have a suggestion on a radio that has the same dimensions for installation, with out recutting or modifications?

I would like a direct replacement, cutting the panel or having a smaller radio leaving gaps in the dash area are problematic for me. Otherwise I may have to pay to have the old one repaired. Don't want to that route, but yet want a clean installation.. :-(
