1984-1988 Sea Ray 270 DA
1985-1988 Sea Ray 300 DA/WE/EC
1985-1989 Sea Ray 340 DA/EC

My 1989 300DA is listed as 9800 lbs dry weight in the factory specs. Now that being said, on the travel lift last fall, they figured that with a 2/3 load of gas and no water or waste and most carry on stuff off the boat, she weighed about 12000lbs. BTW no genney or windless.

I may be wrong, but it is my understanding that when you are talking Gross Tonnage you are not talking Gross weight. Gross Tonnage has to do with the total weight of the vessel and the total cargo volume/weight the vessel can carry:huh:

Just looked at my documentation processed when boat was new for a 1995 300 sundance reads 11 gross tonage 9 Net tonage

I never understood the tonnage thing on the CG documentation. The 480 is the first boat I've documented and I just noticed last year the tonnage was something like 41 tons and the net tonnage was 33 tons (I can't remember exactly). My boat is nowhere near that weight (it's 20 tons empty, ~25 tons fully loaded up) so I don't have a clue what they do or are referring to.

Gross Tonnage

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gross_tonnage

Gross tonnage (often abbreviated as GT, G.T. or gt) is a unitless index related to a ship's overall internal volume. Gross Tonnage is different from Gross Register Tonnage.[1] Neither Gross Tonnage nor Gross Register Tonnage are measures of the ship's displacement (mass) and should not be confused with terms such as deadweight tonnage, net tonnage, or displacement.
Gross Tonnage, along with Net Tonnage, was defined by The International Convention on Tonnage Measurement of Ships, 1969, adopted by the International Maritime Organization in 1969, and came into force on July 18, 1982. These two measurements replaced Gross Register Tonnage (GRT) and Net Register Tonnage (NRT). Gross Tonnage is calculated based on "the moulded volume of all enclosed spaces of the ship" and is used to determine things such as a ship's manning regulations, safety rules, registration fees and port dues, whereas the older Gross Register Tonnage is a measure of the volume of certain enclosed spaces.

Kameroo:
go to answers.com and type in boat tonage they have the formula for calculating the tonage it is something like 1/2 boat length x breadth x inside depth /100
or 1/2(LxBXD)/100

Gary,

This is what I found when I was trying to figure out why the bank wanted me to document my 260!!

Net tonnage is a measure of a vessel's volume. It should not be confused with the vessel's weight, which may also be expressed in tons. Most vessels more than 25 feet in length will measure five net tons or more. For information about how tonnage is determined, including a web-based interactive form that calculates tonnages, visit the U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Center's web site at the

By the way, this is ADVANCED government red tape only fully qualified personnel wearing the correct protective "anti red tape" equipment should view this!!!

Well... it sounds like a useless government number/red tape for sure.

I'll stay away... Unless I'm drinking beer with the guys and am asked what size my boat is.
