So my vent cover was coming loose so I removed it with the intention of resetting it. Well it didn’t really want to come off. The fasteners broke and are now stuck in the side of the hull. I thought they where christmas trees and would pull out relatively easily. Couldn’t have been more wrong. So what is the trick? Are they fastened from behind?

And what is the best way to remove the old silicone and caulk that was used?

Thanks in advance

I’d bet that they would push through if they snapped off. Could they have been glued in by prior owner?

Those were Christmas tree pegs in my hull when that happened to me. I used a very small wine cork screw to pull them out. Worked great! You can use a permanent or semi-permanent adhesive to re-attach the new one.
