We have reservations Sunday thru Thurs (4 nights) this July in a queen bungalow suite. I think we got a pretty good deal via a promotion at $95/night before the $18/night resort fee plus tax. If we end up with this room I am happy.

However..........if I could get a deal I would pay to upgrade to a Hollywood suite, Glamour, Terrace, Marquee or even a Skyloft room.

I do understand that a upgrade is not a guarantee. I do expect to pay for a upgrade.

I would not pay the website costs. The nicer rooms are worth more to me but not that much more.

How much more would I pay? Well, I'd pay about $30+/night more for the Hollywood suite or about $100+/night more for the Terrace or Marquee.

So my question is, are MGM upgrades to rooms at time of check in discounted? If not, I will not even bother to ask. If they are, what is the best approach?

From what I have read, the $20 sandwich does not work at the MGM. I'm blown away by reports I have read at one website where people give the $20 sandwich to a clerk at MGM to get moved from a tower room to a small West Wing room. That’s like ordering a double hamburger and paying extra to get a single. I just don’t get it.

Thank you for your help.

Skylofts will set you back one boat dollar per night for a one bedroom. For three nights though it is pretty darn cool.

Do you have any status with M-Life - MGM's players club? If so, you can usually grab an upgrade that way.

Otherwise, the best success I've had with free/discounted upgrades at the MGM Grand is when there has been a problem with the room, reservation, or ongoing construction noise. Find a problem and they will bend over to make you happy.

Thank you for the reply. I am not a players club member. First Vegas trip. We are going for a wedding.

Have you asked about a upgrade at the time of check in? If so, was the upgrade discounted?

We did a upgrade on your Disney cruise. Saved thousands. We paid a extra $1,550 for 4 nights for a upgrade that the day before would have cost us over $5,000.

I have asked for an upgrade at time of check in, and have had mixed success in getting one. Three weeks ago I stayed there for 3 nights, and asked for an upgrade to a bungalow suite at check-in. After 10 minutes of himming-and-hawing, they gave it to me as a comp.

Without being a club member, I'd just play naive/dumb, and play up the wedding/first visit to Vegas angle and see what you can get them to do for you.

Let us know how it goes.

See I would have taken the $1,500.00 and put my kids in the cheapest inside cabin and taken the rest and drank and gambled (kidding, I dont gamble).........kidding.....I could lived very comfortably in that room....beautiful......Good job

Typically if you ask for an upgrade at the time of check in, their first question is 'are you a player's club member'. If you are, sometimes they will either comp you an upgrade or let you pay for it. If you aren't a member, they will more than likely tell you nothing is available.

Make sure you get some free 'baseball cards' on the street! (click click) lol :smt043

OK I registered online. I'm now a MGM mlife players card member. It was free.

Also be aware that the 'players club cards' at all the casinos actually track your spend/win at that specific casino. In other words, if you're a high roller, you'll tend to get more upgrades vs. someone who just spends $20 here, $20 there. Either way, you're still ahead of someone who doesn't have a players card per say.

Thanks Douglas.

I’ll try being extra nice at check in. Explain how we are there for our godchild’s wedding, being held at the MGM and how we would love to surprise her with a nicer room.

I could see us hosting a get together in the room if we get the Terrace or Marquee Room. Plus there would be photos and such pre-wedding as the girls get dressed.

That might be a good call. I bet they might buy it and you could end up with a nice comp out of it. Vegas is a good time. I've been there probably two dozen times. I don't typically gamble though. I just go for the weather, the sites, the food/drinks, the fun, etc.

Use your card whenever you play. You can ask for a comp at checkout based on your play.
ALWAYS ask for buffet and dinner comps when you play in a pit.
