So I picked up a new prop today, and my prop guy recommended that I coat the prop shaft and hub liberally with Vaseline before installing. Anybody else use this method??

Don't use Vaseline.
Your manual will advise you the exact grease to purchase and it's designed strictly for prop shafts. You can purchase that grease at your dealer or at a retail place like West Marine.

I have always used the same Quicsilver waterproof grease that I used for lubing the outdrive.

Special 101 is the preferred grease for the prop shaft.
