While B&E was winterizing my boat they found the following and I have a few questions:

1 - Holding tank indicator inoperable - what is this, where is this and how do I fix
2 - Freshwater screens are clogged - what is this, where is this and how do I fix
3 - Gimbal ring loose - last spring I had my gimbal bearing replaced and I only put a whopping 22 hours on my boat this summer. Should this really happen? what can cause this?

My boat is a 270 Sundancer, year 2000 w/ a single 454 and BII drive

BTW B&E seems great, while Oselka's sucks, at least from a maintenance/repair prespective.

Thanks guys

1. The tank that holds your toilet waste has a level monitor in it. On my boat the read out is next to the key, in the head, that operates the system. Fixing it requires removing the sensor from the tank and cleaning or replacing it. I am making the assumption that the electronic aspect is working but the sending unit /sensor is the problem.

2. Fresh water screens are just the little screens at each faucet and one next to the pump itself. Taking them out & cleaning them takes just a few minutes.

3. The Gimbal ring should be addressed by the mechanic. Is your current shop the one that did the work 22 hours ago? I am not qualified myself to give you specifics on why, how or correction. Either way it needs to be corrected.

1 - Holding tank indicator inoperable - what is this, where is this and how do I fix NOT SURE ON THIS ONE
2 - Freshwater screens are clogged - what is this, where is this and how do I fix SCREEN IS ON THE FRESH WATER PUMP - CLEAN IT
3 - Gimbal ring loose - last spring I had my gimbal bearing replaced and I only put a whopping 22 hours on my boat this summer. Should this really happen? what can cause this? HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GIMBAL BEARING. THERE ARE TWO NUTS THAT MUST BE KEPT TORQUED TO 50-55LBS FOR GIMBAL RING TO REMAIN TIGHTLY CLAMPED TO SWIVEL SHAFT. THEY ARE VISIBLE AT THE TOP OF THE GIMBAL RING. IT IS MORE LIKELY YOUR RING HAS "ROUNDED OUT" AT THE TOP AND WILL NOT CLAMP ONTO THE SWIVEL SHAFT PROPERLY.

depends on how much waste is in the tank, it may show "Power" on display but not actual level.

Thanks mates!

Based on some very limited research, it seems the gimble ring is difficult to replace. Not sure if mine needs to be replaced or just tightened

B&e will probably try to charge you $150 per faucet to unclog them. They tried pulling that one on a widowed friend of mine.

The indicator on my '98 290 in in the power panel and works when the head system is turned on. It didn't work at first and we tried a sensor cleaner. It did the trick and has been working fine for over 4 years now. My indicator lights at empty and half full. Never filled it completely but I imagine it would show either full or do not fllush. Might give that a try before manually cleaning the tank sensor.

These "freshwater screens" could be the strainers for the engine, generator, and air conditioner. "Freshwater" means different things to different people. Just saying....
