Ok, I've got a real itch to go there by boat. I know I've mentioned it before but I've also been thinking it would be a great February/early March trip.

I know that moorage is limited, so a late winter/early spring jaunt may be what we need to make a group run.

Anyone interested? Let's start the brainstorming now.

Not heard too much about Vancouver by boat (as far as once you get there, moorage, etc.) Give me the scoop....

I'll be leaning on some locals from Van, on iboatnw.com(I posted the same thread there) to get me caught up on the moorage, but I'm now shooting for the end of March or first part of April.
I've heard Grancille Is is really great though
I'm just trying to raise interest now and see who may be interested

How long are you planning to stay? This may influence your choice of moorage. Try googling "vancouver bc marinas" and you'll find a selection. Thunderbird in Coal Harbor would be my first choice. Mosquito Creek marina in North Vancouver is ok but fairly basic. For Granville Island (False Creek), check the following:

http://vancouver.ca/parks/info/marinas/

There is also decent sheltered anchorage in False Creek and Bedwell Bay.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Jacob.
I figure for a long weekend. I'd like to check out Granville for at least a night and then maybe one other place. We've never been to Van by boat.

I'd love to join you but I won't be out there untill mid July.
Vancouver will be the start point of our 4 week trip. We will be heading north from there, then end up in Comox at the end of July for my 30 year class reunion. Man am I that old already LOL.

Well stay in touch, because a bunch of us will be heading to Desolation around then

Todd, when we saw you at Roche in mid-Sept. Marlene & I were on our way back from 3 nights in Vanc. After a lifetime of cruising I realized I had never been there by boat. We had a great time!

There is a floating office at the False Creek YC under the Burrard Bridge (north side of creek) that books/assigns moorage and anchorage in the area (604-648-2628) Mooring on either side of the creek is not a problem, as there are water taxis that will take you across.

In Coal Harbor there is a great short term dock within walking distance of Robson St., downtown, Chinatown, etc. If you have time, it is a fairly short run east under the second bridge (Lion's Gate being first), then take a left into Indian Arm and the charming town of Deep Cove. You won't believe that there is a major city just over the hill.

Danzante will still be tucked in her heated storage when you go, but have a super time.

At the Vancouver boat show I recieved a free magazine called "SunCruiser". Thinking that it would end up in the recycling bin as soon as I got home, it turned out to be very informative. The magazine is made up of chartlets covering the southern Strait of Georgia, from the Gulfs to the Sunshine Coast. There is also a cool website as well. http://www.suncruiser.ca/charts-wc.php

Hopefully this will help with your Vancouver expidition planning.

Regards,
Steve

Hey Todd, I've been hibernating for a while but thought I'd see what the CSR regulars are up to.

This wil be a great trip for you and your group. Good info already on some of the posts. As this is my home port, here's a little more from an insider
When we leave our marina, Reed Point in Port Moody and head under the 2nd Narrows/Iron Workers bridge, first stop is the public dock on North Vancouver, tie up and head to Londsdale Quay for Starbucks. Back on the boat, if we need fuel, Mosquito Creek has a good supply at about $0.10 cheaper than elsewhere. Cruise through the working port along the north side of Burrard Inlet and out under the Lions Gate Bridge takes us into English Bay. Be aware that at mid tide the water under the bridge runs fast and can be pretty lumpy.

Into False Creek, we often tie up at the public docks (oppostie the Fasle Creek Yatch Club) and stroll the shops and eateries on Granville Island. If its a busy day you will have an audience when docking. Then motor up False Creek, where you can drop and anchor overnight (check in at the Yatch Club floating dock).

Returning the same route around Stanley Park and back under the Lions Gate, and head south to Coal Harbour. There is another public dock where we often tie up short term, and stroll to downtown Vancouver amongst the hi-rise condos. And the little bistro as the head if the dock serves good food. Leaving the dock and heading east along the southern shore takes you past more working docks. the new Convention Centre - the 2010 Olympics broadcasting will take place there - is an impressive site. Depending on your time of day, the Cannery Restaurant has a dock, and is one of Vancouver's best seafood restaurants. Then we head back home under the Iron Workers Bridge. A liesurely 3 - 5 hours depending on stops etc.

If you have time head up towards Indian Arm and Deep Cove. On the east side around a point is Bedwell Bay, which is a great place to drop anchor for a barberque, and is a very sheltered bay for overnighting. soft bottom at 30-50' - its a popular locations for locals and visitors. Depending on time, you could head farther up Indian Arm. its about 30 minutes at a 20-22 knot cruise, but its great at a more leisurely speed as well.

So, there's the insiders scoop on the area. Not sure if Fourgone will be unwrapped by then, but I'll keep and eye on this post as you firm up your dates.

Cheers,

Thanks everyone. We've firmed up the Vancouver weekend trip to be the Weekend of Apr 17th.
Fourgone, TY, Steve,
do you want to join us?

The Desolation or North trip we haven't set dates or asked who's interested yet. I'll get that going on a new thread.
