Vacuflush - plumbing question

Out with 10 people on the boat for Aquapalooza on Long Island last weekend. Great day until the head clogged... Next day after checking opening under ball, duck bills, I found major clog in main hose between head and tank. (I will spare gory details of clearing the clog, waste in the bildge and clogged bildge pumps. Could have been worse job I have ever done and I have three kids, thought I had seen it all!!! :smt100)

The clog was in the 90 degree bend the hose makes as it enters the engine room and makes a turn towards the tank. There is relatively small kink in the hose that seemed to cause the clog. My mechanic suggested cutting hose at bend and inserting 90 degree elbow with hose clamps. Seems like good idea to me but thought I would throw it out to the group.

Anyone else have experience to provide?

Had some house plumbing done recently. Asked plumber why he used two 45 and not a 90. Said it was code and 90ies tend to plug up.

I had the same problem two months ago. Shut the water off put a garden hose in the head and let it go. Flushed the paper out and uncloged it. Grandma wiped her ass with half the roll. (not my grandma) LOL

Great advice, I was looking at 90 and 45 elbows today. I will hit plumbing supply and see about getting two 45s put together, thanks.

WAY better way to unclog than the route I took... it is the garden hose next time.

Do we really need to ration toilet paper to guests on the boat? If you have to go, see the captain for your 4 squares of TP?!?!

I had the same problem on my 30 weekender the white waste line had A small kink I replaced it with PVC fittings 45's to make the turn problem solved

Re: Vacuflush - plumbing question

My vacuflush piping is laid out sort of like a pneumatic tube system in a hospital. No actual "elbow" fittings just long sweeping bends of piping. I would say the tightest bend would be about 2x the diameter of the hose at the throat. Unless space constricts you I would shy away from using any elbow fittings. Fittings in any conveyance system (air, water, waste) cause turbulence and catch particulates where the pipe breaks and the fitting starts. Try new hose and a larger sweep in your 90 degree turn.
