Vacuflush won’t create vacuum

Toilet works great, until it doesn’t.

Sometimes it creates vacuum, other times it does not. When it does not, I tap the circled area and it kicks on. Thoughts?

so i if i understand correctly the motor is not running to pump until you tap on the circled area?
if so, may be the relay that seems to be attached to that housing. also could have a motor failing.

Correct! Motor won't move until I tap the bellows/drive shaft.

Tom - unscrew the cover to the pressure switch (two screws on the cover labeled JS) and lightly lift up on the diaphragm when its not running. See if that starts it up...

Carter,

Will do. But what will that tell me? Bellows bad? Its happening on both vacuum generators. Boat sat for about 4 years with little to no use.

I was/am having the same issue. Out of the blue, the toilet wouldn't flush. The first time this happened to me was on a trip last summer. I couldn't get the pump to cycle so I pulled the hose of the output side of the pump and lifted up on the piston with a screwdriver. The pump would then fire up and work great for for a few weeks.

The no flush situation occurred about 5 or 6 more times throughout the summer. Eventually I replaced the 4 duckbill valves. I thought this solved the problem because the system worked flawlessly the rest of the summer.

Fast forward to last weekend. Sitting out in the bay and the wife comes out the the head and says "looks like the problem has resurfaced". Back down to the bilge to conduct the fonzi bump the piston trick. Back in business.

So I ordered a accumulator tank vacuum sensor/switch and replaced (the one Carter is referring to). I figured since the switch was 21 years old it was probably time to change it out. We took the boat out this weekend and had no issues so i'm hoping this fixed the no cycle issue.

That's the reason I started this story out with "I was/am having the same issue" because I am not completely sure if this solved the issue.

Good luck..

while you are screwing with it go ahead and rebuild your pump if its due. I buy parts from Ardemco out of cali and the parts guy is great. He helped me thru this on my Rinker. Its pretty easy. A few seals and such. He says it can fail such that is pukes waste all over the place. I think he says it should be serviced every 3 years if i recall.
