We're about to close on our first cruiser and I was wondering about the advantages/disadvantages of a vacuflush v electric head? I'm not seeing any new vacuflush heads advertised for sale.

Vacuflush heads are more efficient in their use of water than electric heads. Given equal use, the black water tank will need to be pumped out more often if you have an electric head.

My electric Raritan Elegance uses more water than the vacuflush in my 290DA. Both work equally well. You would not believe the Raritan is electric. Advantage is fewer parts and no seals to change with the electric.

if you're boating in salt water get the vacuflush.
It uses water from fresh water holding tank.
Electric heads usually draw the water from a sea cock and in salt water things get pretty smelly in the system

I have a fresh water electric. We replaced our raw water electric that was junk. The new one is very nice but could use a lot of water if you are not careful. I have had both vacu-flush and this new electric. I would prefer the vacu-flush. There are a lot more parts to go bad in the vacu-flush. It's still a good system. I wouldn't shy away from a fresh water electric. A raw water flush is very stinky. The water sets in the hoses for a two weeks in my case. You couldn't be in the boat on the first flush. That's why we went to a new fresh water flush. No more smell.

My Raritan electric can be purchased with fresh or raw water flush as well. I use fresh.
