Vacuflush tank sensor and display.

It's not the wiring or the display, it's the sensors inside the tank. If anyone is using toilet paper it becomes "paper mache". You can pull it out of the tank and clean it if you want....I live with it and request no paper in the bowl.

The sensos are not the issue, there is no electrical power to the display. MM

Not to argue...But if the display POWER light is on....then there is power to the display. Your sensors may not be connected.

You may be right, I tried to get readings on the multi-meter and to short across to light up the display. Do you know any diagnostic checks that can be done? It has never worked in the year I've owned it. The text change in my response was unintentional and I did not know about it until I checked your response. Sorry, MM

No problem....we are all just trying to help each other. Unfortunately I'm thinking your unit inside the tank is bad. Probly no user servicable parts either. Mine even though it's only 4 years old....and I'm carefull only reads when it hits 1/2...sometimes when it reads 3/4. Full is almost too late. I have seen on here that there are other sensors which mount on the outside of the tank...but aren't cheap either.

To test the sensors inside the tank:

Get a mask
Get some rubber gloves
Remove the sensor from the tank
Move the little switches up and down while someone else watches the gauge and while you puke in your mask

You can replace the switches, but, I just replaced the entire unit-twice in 4 years. But, I let people poop in my tank.

Mike, my system is way older than yours. Mine didn't light up so we checked it for power and it was fine so we pulled the sensor (ugh) and it was totally coated in paper mache toilet paper (double UGH). I opted to replace and got the new sensor that had 3 instead of 2 probes. I pulled one of the probes and put a threaded plug in it, installed it in the top of the tank, hooked up all the wires and it works like a champ now.

These are electrcal connections, there has to be some way to test with a multi-meter if they work without disassembly, if there is not then to the engineers that designed and companies that sell: :smt021 MM

The floats have a microswitch. You have to move the float to get it to read on the wire.

I guess you could:

empty the holding tank
drink lots of beer
pee a bunch of times (in the toilet-not in the aft cabin like Bugsy)
let the waste water move the float up
see if the guage works

But, I'm thinking that is what is already happening. Unless someone (probably you) moves the floats (which unfortunately entails some disassembly) and watches the guage, or a multimeter on the wires to the float, then you are gonna be guessing how full of poop you are.

The other option is to throw a $500 bill on the table and call the dealer.

For $150-250 I can get state of the art through the wall electronic with a 2 tank system. Has anyone tried one of these systems? MM

I should clarify this post. My panel in the head only has two lights, almost full and full. The new tank sensors all have three sensors so that is why I had to pull one of the probes and plug off the extra hole.

I checked this weekend when I was on the boat. I was mistaken. I have power, empty, 1/2, full, and do not flush lights. I thought I had 1/4 and 3/4 before reading this post and I was concerned I had some lights out or sensors bad, but I verified that the 1/2 works. To me, it did seem like the level was nearer to 3/4 full when the 1/2 light came on, but the irregular tank shape may be making it difficult on me to estimate. I was too nervous to check the full and do not flush lights to work correctly. I didn't want to have to replace or recharge my charcoal filter on the vent by overfilling. (As a side note, the vacuum generator pump sounds a LOT different with the hatch open. I could have sworn that the pump was pumping water when it wasn't.) With the hatch closed, it just gives a ka-chunk sound.

Thanks for the knowledge about the level indicator!

The problem is common with all Domestic Tanks were the probes get paper (Debris) on them. If you remove the 3 probes and clean them most likely you will have your fix.
Remeber MASK UP extremly toxic even when empty!
