V-Drive noise question.

I just really analyzed this yesterday, but have heard it since day one I bought the boat if that makes any sense..lol. I noticed my port transmission when I put it in gear has a slight wrrrrrrr sound when my starboard has no sound. This sound has been there since I bought the boat. I put around 40hrs on it since then and still sounds the same. I'm going to double check and maybe change the fluid since I don't know when it was done anyway. Any ideas? Normal in some?

My port runs in reverse and sounds a bit different than my starboard. I think your does also. Possibly normal.

I'm interested to hear the comments of a V Drive. My boat has an out drive which is presenting an issue at the moment but I was wondering which one is more reliable and mechanically efficient (call it V-drive versus O/D competition).

OK..Update. I changed the fluid and filters on both transmissions. no change. I can tell you 300 hrs and it was never done..The paint chipped off when I took the filter cover off like it was original. The more I pay attention the louder it seems to get. The port side does have a pronounced whine/Grrrr sound in fwd and Reverse. It get louder as rpm increase. I really never payed any attention to it though. I put the star trans in gear with the port in N and it's quiet as can be in any gear any rpm. The port is much louder in any gear at any rpm. This winter I could check the alignment and cutless bearing. It there anything else that would contribute to this noise besides the trans itself? When I get a chance I'm going to get in the compartment and have someone drive to pin point it if I could.

I Know a bunch of you keep saying that...Why is my friends 2005 32 Sundancer with the same transmissions BOTH quiet? That's why this crap drives me crazy. It may be fine and last forever like this, but why??? WHen I know it could be quiet...I have OCD...lol
