Uuuuuuuum..............Oil is now at $133 a barrel

So, I'm reading this morning, that the Senate is having a discussion about removing the tax subsidies to the gas companies and hitting them with windfall profit taxes. The gas companies probably don't need the subsidies, but I don't think they should get the windfall taxes. If you hit these guys with windfall taxes, they'll just push it onto the customer and keep the prices high to pay for the taxes.

The senate's going after the wrong group. They should be going after the speculators! Hit them up for running up the prices with windfall taxes. The oil companies are just willing benefactors of the speculators work.

just my 2 cents.

When will these idiots realize that companies do not pay taxes. The people who buy the products pay the taxes. Stupid is as stupid does

Thanks guys. I really appreciate ya'll pushing the price higher...:smt021

I just got done telling my wife the same thing. It's politics. The dems want to make it look like they are going after the "evil" big business, because that is all their voters will understand. I challenge anyone to show me a senator that really gives a crap how much it costs to fill our tanks. These guys havent touched a gas pump nozzle in years. for the next 5 months anything congress does will be politics to get Osama elected.

On th good side. I also read today that the Saudis want to old a sit down with oil producers and sellers to dscuss what they an do to ease the oil price crisis. If they actually have the meeting, maybe some of these speculators will get cold feet and start to run. Wishfull thingking I know, It's all politics.

Thank goodness, the dem's didn't win this one.

from wptz.com (nbc)

"Senate Republicans on Tuesday blocked a Democratic plan to tax the windfall profits of the largest oil companies. Democrats on Tuesday failed, 51-43, to get the 60 votes needed to overcome a GOP filibuster of the energy package and bring the bill up for consideration. Democrats said the huge profits enjoyed by the largest U.S. oil companies should be reined in, with motorists paying more than $4 a gallon for gasoline and oil prices soaring well beyond $100 a barrel.
AAA and the Oil Price Information Service said the latest survey of service stations across the country shows the national average of regular gasoline has risen 2 cents to a record of just over $4.04 a gallon. But Republican critics said higher taxes on oil companies would increase -- not lower -- gasoline prices and reduce the incentive for domestic oil exploration and production. The price of gasoline continued on its record-setting pace Tuesday. It is the fourth straight increase and the third straight record for gas prices.Missouri had the cheapest gas at $3.840 a gallon. The District of Columbia and 23 states are enduring unleaded gas prices of $4 and above.According to a CNN/Opinion Research poll released Monday, 86 percent of respondents believe gas prices will top $5 a gallon sometime this year, CNN reported. Gas prices are following crude oil prices higher, and aren't likely to stop rising until crude prices hit their peak. Jim Rutterbusch, who heads an energy consultancy in Illinois, said, "When crude tops out, we'll finally start getting some relief at the pump."

Yeah and back in May, about the 15th, the Senate rejected a bill that would have lifted the ban on off shore oil production.

Why would having the Saudi's produce more oil solve the problem but not having the US produce more?

Best regards,
Frank C

The Saudis can put it into the market now. The drilling the U.S. is talking about will take a long time before it results in barrels that can be sold.

They have been saying that for over a decade. If they started drilling back then, it would be on-line now. Have to start sometime. Now is as good as any other time.

Don't expect any resolution out of Washington on this one. The two parties are way too far apart to agree on anything that makes sense regarding the whole energy situation. We have one of the most serious economic crisis in modern history going on and all they can do is disagree. Disgusting...........absolutely disgusting.

This will make you sick to your stomach, and also make you want to revolt and have a 300 million man march on Washington DC... it is long but watch 5 or 10 minutes into it... he wrote a book long time ago. It talks of what we really have in Alaska

Frank, I'll bring the tar and feathers. How much is tar going to cost me? better make it corn syrup....nope how about? I know I just got over the stomach flu, I will bring bile and feathers you bring the rope.

The closest thing to a Boston Tea Party we can do now is to petition Congress to allow more drilling. Since I don't want to take the initiative, I signed a petition started by American Solutions, a non-partisan (though apparently started by conservative political types) group: www.americansolutions.com

The heck with the tar and feathers.

We all have Sea Rays don't we? A good old fashioned Keel Hulling or Flogging on the decks of our boats would at least keep the punishment "nautical" in nature. We could all take turns dragging these &^%*@ thru the water or whipping their backsides while we are burning the $5 a gallon fuel that they refuse to do anything about. Maybe we could even make this part of the next Aqua-palooza event.

Holy smackers, everything is going to hell. Is it me, or does everything cost double now? I bought a gallon of milk last night, since when did a gallon of milk cost $3.50? The last time I bought a gallon of milk, it cost $.90. Now I know why my GF doesn't let me go shopping, I came back with generic everything and day old bread.

I saw a quote that members of Congress should get a virus when put into office that will make them sick when they do or say stupid things.
Make being stupid hurt. Double it for the lobbyists.
I signed the"Drill Here, Drill Now" petition, too !
My family owns some oil wells in Arkansas that have capped for 60 years.
We want to uncap them. But, there is so much rigamarole involved in bring a well
back on line in the US now. We figure the paperwork and permiting process will take another 30 months and then getting the wells running another 18 months.
And that is for wells that are proven units!!!!
