I want to play around with my Raymarine C80 over the winter. How can I wire it up to use it at home over the winter? Thanks.

Look on the back of the unit and see how many amps input the unit requires.

Now go purchase a 12 volt transformer online or go to Radio Shack and wire it up.

You can wire it up to any 12 VDC Power Supply, 5 amps rating should be sufficient if you are not plugging in your radar dome. If you are you are going to need a larger power supply. Unless you are going to “play with it” in simulation mode only you will also need your GPS antenna plugged in.

Manuals can be found here: http://www.raymarine.com/ProductDetail.aspx?SITE=1&SECTION=2&PAGE=758&PRODUCT=1672

12 volt battery or a regulated power supply. Do not mess around with a transformer unless you have a bridge or regulator attached and know what you are doing.

Plus to plus minus to minus and your in buisness.

You have a computer so why not down load free RayTech Navigator from Raymarine to your computer. You can then get USB card reader from Navonics and use C-80 chips on the computer to plot and save your trips. The chip can be reinserted into the C-80 and there you are. That is a lot safer than taking the C-80 out of the boat and hooking up a power supply that may be wired incorrectly.

I have plotted courses on my computer for more than 7 years now and transfer the routes to my chart plotter via wire from the computer directly to the chart plotter.

Would you have a link to this "Free" version you can post, if not would you "PM" me with a link? I have not located a free version ($550.00 - $600.00). I only want something for practice and not for actual use, what you have listed sounds fine.

Thanks

I have this software as well, question do you need to by the card reader from Navonics or can you use any type of media reader? I have used standard flash card readers to update the software in the C-80, but I have not tried to read the chart flash card.

Pseudomind: Here is a link to download the free demo version of the software, I think you have to sign into RayMarines website or create a new account for yourself before it will let you download it.

I have the RL80CRC Plus with hsb2, no USB reader so I will probably have to order one, but I am not sure the NAV 6 on Raymarines site will work with what I have as it is older. any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

Chapter 5.6 covers importing wpts./routes from a card. Doesn't seem to be clear whether the RayTech Planner is compatible with the older units, but I tend to think it would be. It's free, so give it a shot.

All you need is a blank card (never use your C-Map chart card) and a USB card reader if your computer doesn't have a compatible slot.

Importing waypoints via computer/card is a great way to go. I have an offshore dive program that contains close to 20,000 waypoints- it's simple to sort and put together an export list, and the program allows you to download the waypoints to a card in a selectable format depending on the make of your chartplotter (Ray, Furuno, etc.). Push a few buttons and 500 waypoints are transferred!

ALWAYS be sure to have a backup card as you would with any other file you don't want to lose. Even if you don't use cards to import waypoints, it's always a good idea to have all the info on your plotter backed up to a card, anyway.

I never did get this to download, RayTech Planner, before, (It would start then hang up). I was able to download, but I will now have to check compatibility with my system, RL80CRC Plus with hsb2. I understand that C-maps.com is now located at jensen something .com

Any links?

Thanks

I found the c-map link. I guess they have been bought out by Jeppesen Marine, because c-map.com no longer works

Now that I recieved my power cord from Raymarine. I get understand hooking up black to neg. and red to positive. But what about the silver mesh wire that comes from the surrounding the black wire? I believe I can tie it in with the black. Thanks.
