USCG Boards Ship for Illegal Fishing and Finds Infestation of Rats!

Just to ask a question or two from the other side: How muchwould it cost us to prosecute and incarcerate 22 crew members all of whom areprobably low level workers not the likely profiteers of this venture? I know, nobody paid for this, but who really perpatrated this? MM

Good question and point. I think they should at least prosecute the captain and officers as a minimum. But then again did the entire crew know they were fishing illegally? Doesn't the law apply to everyone regardless of cost of prosecuting? If not why have the law on the books.

Yea....they would get free U.S. Lawyers at our taxpayer cost and they are not even Americans.

The articles have not said much about the officers. Are they any kind ofinternationally recognized profesionals or just lacky's?

More sharks than first believed. No one getting charged is just plain..

When I first read this I thought you were referring to a bunch of lawyers hired by the arrested crew members, and that's why no charges were filed.

Personally I think they ought to just put the crew back on the ship, tow it a couple of hundred miles out to sea, then let the USCG have some target practice.

We are all for doing away with this vessel and likely other similar vessels. However I worry about unintended consequences. This should not be for any domestic vessels. MM
