The following statement has appeared on the AFThunderbirds.com website:

The implementation of across-the-board cuts in federal spending has caused the curtailment of the Thunderbirds 2013 show schedule. Effective April 1, all of the team’s performances have been cancelled. The team still plans to perform at the Titusville, Fla., air show March 23-24.

I'd like to offer a plug for the Valiant Air Command 2013 Warbird Airshow in Titusville, FL. The Titusville area was negatively impacted by the cancellation of the space shuttle program and is still in recovery mode. The Valiant Air Command is headquartered at Space Coast Regional Airport in Titusville. This is the 36th time that the VAC Warbird Airshow has been put on and it is a professional airshow. I've been many times and plan to attend again this year. The weather in late March is usually very nice. Titusville is about an hour from Orlando, an hour to Daytona, and 30 minutes to Cocoa Beach so this event could be combined with a bunch of other options.

The link to the airshow website is http://www.nbbd.com/festivals/warbird/index.html

I've got $100 that says the cancelations have absolutely nothing to do with the spending cuts, but rather were "ordered" as part of the plan to shock taxpayers into believing that the sky is indeed falling.

The sky started falling more than 4 years ago when this joker was voted into office...

couldn't agree more!

I'll take the $100, it will be a small drop in the bucket compared to the 20% pay cut the wife and I are facing. You don't understand that the law behind squestration - which by the way was the presidents idea - are across the board cuts. The military services have no ability to reprogram (move) money from one program to another to cover the cuts. The Navy will be parking the Blue Angels, and up to four active carrier wings. Why? Under the cuts, the money that funds flying (fuel, etc) is less. Pilots require a certain amount of flying to remain "current", and there is not enough to go around. Yet overseas commitments remain...make no mistake, the ripples of the next few months will be felt for YEARS in the Fleet. It's real, it is already happening, and it is not a joke or a stunt. It's the law...

The real irony is watching our glorious leader, fresh from his golfing outting with Tiger, tell the press how "stupid" sequestion is. Remember, this was HIS IDEA. Who's stupid now? Those suckers that voted for him, that's who.

PM me so we can arrange payment...

CJ,
Technically, I probably should pay up. My ignorance of the procedures regarding the moving of funds is obvious. My frustration with the media is at such a high level that I can't see straight. However, these procedures, apparently written into the law, were put in place for a reason. I won't publically speculate what I think those reasons are, (I've still got $100 to pay off the last time I did that!)

I guess I should have left it at this..... There are billions of dollars in spending cuts that could and should have been made long before it came to anything even remotely related to our military.

It's sad that they threaten us with cuts to the things we care about. They never speak of cuts that nobody gives a damn about. Nobody cares if the floors get polished every night in all those big Washington buildings. Nobody cares if the lawn at the White House doesn't get raked every day. Why not make cuts there? Because nobody gives a damn about those things and wouldn't care if they cut those jobs back.

It's just like with local politics. Whenever there is a tax issue coming up for a vote the politicians always talk about cuts to police and fire. Why? Because people care about them. You never hear a pol talk about cuts to the parks department or the streets department where you always see 10 guys on a jobsite and 8 of them are leaning on rakes and shovels.

If Obama led by example instead of doing the 'Do as I say, not as I do" and if Afro-1 would stay parked in Washington for awhile instead of flying to let the pres play golf or give a political speech we could save a ton of money. Obama, keep your butt at home. Make your speeches from the White House instead of flying all over the damn country.

Hmmm, you don't suppose that the original point of my thread has been lost to the political drivel and racist responses that it has generated, do you?

When I was living in Seattle in 2004, I remember that idiot governor Gary Locke - there was a budget crisis - his response was to close libraries and pre-K school programs. Like you said hit them where it hurts...not where you can save real money.
