Trying to upgrade the Raymarine E120 display on my 2012 470 Sundancer with a Axiom Pro. Does anyone have experience with what needs to be changed. Currently radar and GPS work fine but struggling to get autopilot to recognize routes programmed into the unit. Tried to get local Raymarine certified to look and give me an estimate of what is need and after three time on the boat never came back.

@Russ26
I would take a complete inventory of the electronics on your boat and then submit it to Raymarine (try calling 800-539-5539)
They are usually very helpful and detailed. I am guessing for sure you will need to add a NMEA 2k network if you dont have one already. Not a big deal...

That makes sense

Thanks for the reply
That makes sense. It’s difficult to find someone who is knowledgeable with these electronics.

@Russ26

Unfortunately its most difficult to find knowledgeable and reasonably priced!

If you are willing to do a little home work, and documentation, we can probably get a list of components in your system and make some pretty good recommendations as to how to upgrade. Some of it you can do yourself with basic hand tools, or if your hire it out be knowledgeable about how hard/easy a job should be and have a resonable idea of the cost.

The first thing we need are the Raymarine part #'s. Typically they are in the form of E##### or A#####, and a lot of the part #'s will be on tag on the unit (usuallly buried in a hard to access and see location).

I would start by posting some pictures of your dash and all Raymarine components you can see including whats on the arch.

I'm guessing since your looking at the Axiom Pro, you have a E120 Widescreen? If this is what you have you might be in pretty good shape as it does have a lot of the modern network capabilities.

I have already purchased an Axiom Pro and the radar and GPS are functioning fine. The issue is with the autopilot integration.

Will the Axiom work with the analog radar?
Is the GPS old Seatalk or NMEA 0183 and will the Axiom work with that?

@ttmott
I do not believe an analog radar will work with the axiom

The E120 will not accept analog radar, but did utilize SeaTalkhs so likely he already has some sort of digital radar. If this is the case, the swap is pretty easy from a radar stand point.

Radar Compatibility -> https://forum.raymarine.com/showthread.php?tid=22

This set up likely has a SeaTalkhs switch (or one can be easily added), so likely has a RS125 GPS and a sonar module would be easily integrated as well.

Autopilot while not difficult, can be integrated, with slightly limited functionality (you will have to engage tracking and routes from the AP head, and waypoint naming is an issue, but solvable).

The ultimate solution is to update the AP system (minus the hydraulic pump, it will work just fine). Its not crazy expensive, and a pretty easy upgrade.

I'm pretty sure the Pathfinder radar used with the E120's (2006 vintage) originally on my boat were analog. It was not part of the ethernet HS but rather plugged into the back of the MFD. If I remember correctly the only things on the HS network were the DSM300 sonar, SR100 Sirius Weather, and the two chartplotters and of course the SeatalkHS Router.

To get the Autopilot working it needs to be connected via the SeaTalk cable from the Axiom, except I believe it is NMEA0183 from the Axiom and SeaTalk to the autopilot, either way they are the same thing just different connectors so the SeaTalk may have to be cut open and a terminal block used to connect then together.
