I have the stock Raymarine chartplotter and i wanted to know what Garmin product would fit the cut out, even if it is bigger, what have you guys done with this set up? I like garmin because it is user friendly and i am familiar with their softwares...

Recommendations are welcome....

Thanks in advace

ps: i am also planning on changing head unit( stereo) at same time probably Fusion 750 series with JL audio 7.7 M series component speakers.

We recently replaced our Raymarine C80 with a Garmin GPSMAP 840xs Combo from Boe Marine and had the new CHIRP technology transducer installed last week. They're excellent, really recommend them. You will need a new panel to fit the opening which cost us about $200 (incl. S&H) from: custom@tecnografic.com ask for Corey Burrell, he now has the template from ours which I believe is the same size as yours if you go that route. You can't tell any difference with the other panels at all. The Garmin is a bit of a tight fit as it's a bit bigger than the Raymarine C80 and the sun cover won't fit exactly but it works for us:)

Justlookin and BritLady,

thank you so much for your recommendation, i will definately go with that, wasn't sure if i needed a new wood panel , now i know how to proceed...

Thanks

i am doing the same thing to my 2001 340DA...i could not find a new unit that would fit the cutout for the old Raymarine chartplotter....i plan to use 1/4" black starboard and make a plate to cover the dash hole and install a new Garmin 'echomap 94SV'.....this is a large unit with a 9" screen....i am going to install two SS cup holders inside of a black starboard plate in place of the old Raymarine GPS....

your dash is a different arrangement than mine so this size unit may not work for you but you get the idea about using starboard to make a mounting plate....

I went with the Garmin 840XS as well and used the same wood panel. Saved a couple hundred dollars there. Just stuck the template that came with the 840 and cut the hole larger to fit. The plastic gets very thin on the sides but was a very easy to cut and install. I also had to cut some on the dash to enlarge the hole. Love the 840XS and highly recommend it.

LOL lucky you Mark:) We tried to cut our existing panel but it was very brittle and cracked so had to buy a new one. We just installed a second Garmin 740 1xs in the middle panel but did manage to save it by installing a piece of black bracing plastic underneath the unit.

How did you route your transducer wire and was the stock wire long enough? Also would love to see a pic of how you did the cup holders, great idea. I also have an 01 340DA

I didn't install a new transducer. I am still using the tri-data gauge. I have not replaced the original GPS with cup holders yet. Both my parents are elderly and in poor health right now so projects on the boat are on hold. I will post pics when I can. The new GPS works great. Very easy to see even in direct sunlight.
