Making some choices on our on going updating of our 2001 380 sundancer.

I have read many old post on replacing the carpet and converting it to hard surface. I have not seen anything siting the pro's and cons or different materials.

Hardwood - This seems like it make limit head room and be to rigid. How does this hold up to moisture.

Laminate - Any issues with moisture with a floating floor?

Vinyl - Haven't seen much info on this. Has anyone tried it.

I have leaned towards laminate. Really looking for some help on the proper material to use.

What is Sea Ray using in their new boats?

As always all thoughts and opinions are welcome!

Thanks!
It feels and looks like wood, it's laid over a subfloor.
Nuteak installed it, I believe they call it C-Floor?

Jon, that's a beautiful boat. I'd love to do this on Nehalennia but my floor has a contour. If I can figure out how to overcome that I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I got a 3/4 sheet of interior plywood, Varathaned it and cut it to fit my 270 cabin floor perfectly then I covered it with Home Depot's Allure. I got the idea from a post right here on CSR. It came out perfect. The plywood in conjunction with the Allure makes is very heavy so I did not need to fasten it to the floor. It does not move. After I adhered the Allure to the plywood I sand the 3/4" outside edge of the plywood then stained it dark brown-almost black. Looks great cleans, easy wont rot.

Do you have any pics of the finished floor? Any photos of the fitting process? Why do you say it won't rot? Did you do anythink with the carpet on the stairs, under v birth, under dinete or at the base entering the aft cabin? Sorry for so many questions but I'm looking to do something with mine just havnt made a decision yet. Thanks

I did a maple pre-finished floor that is about 3/8 inch thick from lumber liquidators. I did not do the entire floor, only the galley area. I also put 1 1/2 inch flame maple on the stairs. Since we have a bird's eye maple interior (rare), it matches nicely. You could do the same with a cherry floor for your interior.

I have had this down for 5 years and it looks like the day I put it in. I love it and can't imagine having to deal with carpet again.

***WORD OF WARNING***
When I put this down the girlfriend said had we been married that this floor would have been grounds for a divorce. I did all the work myself only working on weekends. It took me from Memorial day to 4th of July to complete because there is no straight area to work off of as everything tappers to the bow. That and my dock mates would only allow me to work from 8 am to 4-5 pm because they didn't like living next to a lumber yard every weekend.

~I Would do it again if I had too~

Looks great. I would love to do it but the back of the stairs and the floor under my dinete are contoured. They have an upward bend. How would I bent the wood to match?

I'm sorry I have no pix and the boat is wrapped. The fitting process is simply cut the plywood to fit, attach the flooring to it, trim the overhang then sand the edge. Lastly put a coat of waterproof shellac on the back of the bare wood. It wont rot because its synthetic flooring. I did the cabin floor and the first step that goes to the aft cabin. Go to Home Depot and look at the Allure samples.

Is the allure a sheet vinal or plank that lock togeather?

Is the Nutek a sheet vinal or planks that lock?

How think are the 3/8 inch wood floors with the plywood?

How thick are the 3/8 inch wood floors with the plywood?

Are you putting down your own plywood or using the plywood that is underneath the carpet. I was able to use the plywood underneath when doing mine. If you feel the need to put down plywood then you could use 1/4" 1/2" 3/4" 1" it depends on what you want but anything over 1/2" is a bit excessive if you ask me
