I've finally got the time to go meet with my local canvas guy. If you read my post before, I was a little blown away by the original quote for the full camper. But, this guys the best and everything's new and SS vs. aluminum. Like many of you, I'm constantly looking at boats and boats for sale on the web. I decided I like the original look of the 80's with the front bimini coming off the windshield (Convertible Top) and the fastback vs. rear frame. I'm having him design a larger front bimini that comes back further than original. Essentially, I'm going to be eliminating the need for rear bimini frame and some square inches of canvas. IMO, this looks better but I realize I may sacrifice some headroom, front and rear. But, this quote was $2000 less (Original Quote for full camper with front isinglass was $5300++)!!!!!!! Just thought I'd share the breakdown for those who may be shopping canvas prices. I like the bimini in the pic below comes way back in turn minimizing the slope of the rear fastback. That should give me plenty of room:

1 fwd bimini, 3 bow/struts SS hdw. $1420

1 front canvas panel, zip to bimini snap to windshield, $225

2 fwd binini glass side panels, $375/$750

1 Aft Transom to Bimini (back) panel (canvas w/ door panel) $675
will discuss size of glass windows if needed

2 Aft (back panel canvas Side panels) zip to back panel $175/$350

Base= $3420

Come up here to Connecticut, that 3,420 would cost you 5,000. If you have any sewing skills, you could do it yourself for about 800 and lots of time. I did it on my 260 dancer. About 40 hours of work, learned a lot of things, and would do it again. Since then I have done 2 dodgers and other stuff for people around the marina.

My boat came with a convertible top, and a slanted back "camper" and I am looking to go with a full camper enclosure with a true bimini. It won't happen for a while (see the $5000+ CT comment above) but the canvas design I have now really cuts down on the space and gives the boat a "cave" feeling.

I went by the canvas shop yesterday and got the full tour of their operation. We did some modifications to the design and was actually able to extend the front bimini back further which really minimizes the slope. The asthetics look awesome in the mock up. And the changes only cost me an extra $100 bucks. I'm leaving a deposit tomorrow to start the work and will take 4-6 weeks to complete. I'll hopefully have some pics of the design and the project in process as it's all 100% custom work. This guy's the best and does sails for the US Yacht team. He's also done warranty work for Sea Ray in the past.

i got kinda the same your looking for, done in boulder city nv.

i changed the bimini color to silver sunbrela, looks gray, and a screened gray camper enclosure to replace inclosed camper back. used our original frames. went with #10 zippers instead of #8's.

she screen would run about the same as canvas enclosure if i wanted that new. only difference in in square yard price between screen product and sunberla.

cost was $1500

every thing in sig pix is now gray v v v

Mike,

It's Ken Daniels with DDS Sailmakers. His shop is in Old Hickory (Lakewood close to Black Jack Marina) Went down again today and spent another hour and half going over initial design and left deposit. I have to say I am so impressed with him so far. He's really taking his time, explaining the process, showing materials, etc. He's also shown me samples of his work, both photos and boats at Elm Hill. It's about 4-6wk process from here so I hope to send pics as he goes. First will be the frames and then he actually will cut custom patterns on the frames at the boat. Stay tuned for more info as the project moves along.
