The "up" trim switch on the throtle control is not working on my 2000 210 BR. I can lower the outdrive using the switch but when I hit the switch to raise it, nothing happens. Not even a "click". I can raise the outdrive using the "trailer switch" on the throttle control but not the switch on the top. The switch on the transom works fine as well for raising and lowering.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like your trim limit switch is bad.

You have two options, replace the limit switch which is not a trivial job or find where the limit switch wires connect to the trim pump and jumper them at the pump. If you do the latter the trim switch on your throttle control will be able to raise the drive right up the same as the trailer button.

I like your suggestion. Sounds like a good fix rather than having to removing the outdrive. I'll give it a try this week and see if it works. Thanks!!

Well it's not reallly a fix, more of a bandaid solution. When I bought my boat the previous owner had done this. I replaced both the trim switch and trim sensor (wasn't working either) this spring when I did all the bellows.

What did you use for a jumper? Would alligator clips connected by a wire do the job?

I din't put the jumper in on my boat the previous owned did. I replaced the limit switch. I would only jumper it if the switch failed again and then only until I could replace it.

Do no use aligator clips, they could vibrate off too easily causing a spark. Use the proper connectors, they are the bullet type connector available at any auto part store.

Good thought Westie on the sparking. I'm going to go home tonight and see if I can locate the correct wires then head to an auto parts store tomorrow to pick up the needed bullet connectors.

Just a side note: At the trim pump, the large blue wire makes the drive go up, the large green one makes it go down. Blue for sky, green for ground.

Had the same thing on our 195br. First time out last season. The trim limit switch had gone bad. Bad thing it was hit and miss so I would hear it. The other thing is that meant the trim gage was now wrong. You can image my surprised when the trim showed down and I slammed on the throttle, but in reality the drive was up almost all the way…

Well I made a jumper and put it on and low and behold the "up" trim switch works now. I must have a bad limit switch. Once again, the advice I got from this site was right on the money. Thanks to everyone who responded. Now if you could only do something about all this rain I would really be impressed. :)

I think I have the same problem. Is there anything that can be cleaned where the switch is attached to the outdrive?

I would get a voltmeter and check for voltage at the UP solenoid on the trim motor with someone holding the trim switch up. If you are getting voltage at that point it is most likely the UP solenoid that is bad. If you are not getting voltage at the UP solenoid then I would check for voltage at the trim limit switch, if you are getting voltage at the trim limit switch then it is bad. If no voltage is getting there then the up switch in the throttle handle is likely bad.

I have found that knowing how to operate a multimeter is an important skill in owning a boat. It eliminates a lot of guessing and makes things systematic.

I had the same issue before my first outing this year in new-to-me boat, except mine would not lower. I am just glad I checked on the driveway before towing to the lake and finding the problem after backing the trailer down the ramp and floating the boat off.

Jumpering out the switch did not help It was the electrical connector at the pump inside the engine compartment. I cleaned the contacts there, and so far, so good.
