"Unwinterizing" a Boat?

IMO, Tell the dealer to get the boat running and their cost. Did you take it for a trial run yet?

IMO, the boat should be ready to go and running upon delivery with no additional cost to you.

It was a brokered boat so I expect to pay for certain things. I am having some maintenance done at my cost prior to delivery that should have been done by the previous owner such as tuning up the generator including replacing the imeller, changing transmission fluid and drive shaft alignment. My two previous boats were dealer owned and the service level was actually worse.

Phil'n Nauti--- the reason the cabin bulb is so damn expensive is the fixture that SR put in during production. It takes a special bulb that my marina had to order.

I too visited the $20 bulb issue and after 2 bulbs decided to have the bulb housing in the fixture changed.

Each change was about $15-$20 in parts and my own labor but now they take a bulb from any hardware store for a buck or 2.

You may want to look into that if you are keeping your vessel for any period of time...bulbs do burn out.

Good luck.

320Bob - If you want to be hands on i recommend that you ask the dealer to be present when they summerize the boat. Meet the tech on the boat, give he a few bucks and absorb all the info you can. Stay with the tech the entire time and become his helper. Take notes so that you can do this next year with no assistance. Even if you have to pay for it the correct knowledge down the road will save a bundle and you will be more confident. Good luck.

Rocket,
Thanks for the advice, but I am not sure I will really need that much assistance summerizing the boat other than the tip one of the other posters mentioned about making sure the water heater hoses are connected. Also making sure the batteries are hooked up and the bilge drain plug is in.

But I do plan to take your advice for other maintenance items for the boat especially how one maneuvers in the 320 engine compartment which I am sure is much smaller than what you have on your boat. When I visited the marina last November, the person in the slip next to what will be mine this year was winterizing his boat. He is someone I plan to tap for knowledge along with getting to know the mechanics in service department. I have not had access to the boat for all practical purposes since it is in storage 80 miles from where I live. Next winter it will be stored at the marina so I will have access and perhaps do some work on it over next winter.
