Hi all,

I just found this forum in my search for an answer to a problem. I have called two Searay service centers and neither has a clue. I've searched through most of the threads here that are "Similiar" but haven't seen anything quite like this. I have a 2005 Sea Ray 205 sport with a 4.3 Mercruiser.

A few months ago as I was leaving the dock, an alert sounded and the engine stalled for a split second. After that the boat ran perfectly for weeks. A month ago it started doing it 1-2 times an outing, mostly when the engine was still cold. Same symptom each time. A brief alarm, the engine stalls then resumes. Oil pressure seems fine throughout. Fluid levels all within normal range. Last week I had the boat out and it now stalls repeatedly with the alert sounding each and every time.

Sea Ray says there is nothing that can cause a single, intermittent alarm that would concide with the engine cutting out. I asked about the IAC and they said it was unlikely. Anyone else ever experience anything like this before???

Thnks,

Steve

Sounds a lot like what went on with my stbd engine, before it stalled for good, and it was the IAC. They replaced it and now all is fine. They can hook their computer up and pull up the fault codes.

You may have a loose wire some place that is turning on and off the ignition, ect. Because what happens is normaly when you turn the key on you will get a beep letting you know the alarm is working correctly.

Do all the gauges drop when it does this?

The only way to find this is to start the engine and start wiggling every wire you can find till the engine does it.

Do you have a engine serial number? I will check a service bulletin for you and let you know if yours needs attention.

Just a little more info for you: There's only three reasons your alarm will go off when the boat is running. Low oil pressure, high engine (water) temperature and low drive oil. And, it is correct that those alarms will not shut down the engine. So, unless you have two problems going on, the above advice about loose wires seems to be the best place to start.

The only other thing on your dash that can make an alarm is a depthfinder.

By the way, do you have a 2005 200 Sport or a 2006 205 Sport? Not that that matters much for this discussion, but what does (could) matter is whether or not your engine is FI, or not? I'm assuming FI?

I had the same thing happen on my 240. The dealer had me do a hard reset on the Smart Craft guage, and that solved it temporarily. The long term fix was having the ECM replaced for $1,800 cool. Fortunately, we had the extended warranty.
