As I was anchoring and letting down the anchor from the foot petals, anchor rope came out tangled. See attached.

Tried to run it in reverse and forwards a few times to get the tangled rope out but kept on slipping. Thankfully it was only about 30' worth of line. So pulled it up and went home. Any advice on how to untangle and reset the breakers as now the windlass doesn't go and down and the light above the helm switch doesn't turn on.

I have a 2006 searay 290 sundancer, and this was my second time anchoring. Any advice on how to make sure the rope locker is nice and neat when pull the anchor would be great as well because i didn't expect the rope to be knotted a day later.

Do you have the wrench for it . Mine was in the rose locker when I purchased the boat it has the star shaped end that you see on the windlass . Mine also balled up on thebspool like that at first. The line was worn for the first 30 feet and remaining 100 or so looked like new so I took the splice to the chain apart and attached it to the other end of the line. Lots of online instruction on doing a tapered backsplice . My windlass does not seem to have enough fall into the rode locker so I open the hatch and apply slight tension on the line as my 4 year old operates the switch at the helm because we don't have controls at the bow. An upgrade on that is coming soon because it's a pain when I'm out alone.

Spend the money and buy a swivel, a good one. That will stop the tangle. I pulled all my line out and layed it out, installed the swivel then pulled it back in. That was over 4 years ago and haven't had a issue since.

Ugly.

What ever you do DO NOT break that windless finger that keeps tension on the rope so it grabs the wench mechanism.

They are no longer available on the open market.

A swivel will help but once you get it untangled...... go out, anchor, advance the rode 100% and then bring it back in.

See if that cleans up your anchor locker and makes the rope behave.

got it all untangled and switched the breaker. any swivel brands and recommendations?

Is there tension on that finger? That will help you keep things from getting jammed. The springs are available from Imtra and I believe your part number is 9mm Spring, #890 - LWPPF011. Very easy to replace, just be careful not to lose the parts. It should press snug against the rope and chain to keep them from getting knotted up.
