Unpleasant sweet smell in salon

Not to beat a dead horse but here we are in mid March and I am still fighting this issue. Any one out there with a science background? This sweet smell never went away even through sub freezing temperatures of this winter. There were several occasions when I checked on boat where the salon temps were in the teens. Does this confirm that this smell is not organic. Boat is bone dry. I literally have 15 damp rid bags and containers throughout cabin and bilge. What could I be missing here. Anxiety is on the rise knowing spring is around corner and I am losing this battle.

Supposedly freon smells somewhere between sweet and chloroform. I don't know what variant is used in the HVAC or the fridge, but are they all working properly?

do you find it works? We have what I would consider just 20 year old boat smells but I would like to try ozone
Yes it kills spores that create smells. You need to wipe down and clean real well after treatments. I use this in my house to clean ac ducts and keep all musty smells from getting worse. I run it in the boat a couple times a year for an hour then a deep cleaning.

cool, I’ll give it a go. They’re pretty cheap

I don’t even want to know how you know what chloroform smells like.

:D
Ha!

But all I did was a little googling and that was what came up - actually in multiple hits. I didn't even think of it as I was typing, but yeah, that's an odd reference to use!

The last words she ever heard: Does this rag smell like chloroform to you?

I ran an ozone generator many times before but the smell always comes back. I also tried the Nose Guard/Chlorine Gas plastic containers. It works initially but the smell always returns.

I'm wondering if you didn't pick up a stowaway somewhere and it has now died. If so, once it completely dries out it will no longer smell...

Has it occurred to you that it might be the normal smell of fiberglass, bedding, the blue chemicals you put in toilet, other boat smells? My boat smells ‘different’ not bad, just boat smell.

Instead of guessing I would start with one of these:

There are more expensive ones you can buy but you have to start somewhere if you haven't found the problem so far.

That tells me you haven't eliminated the source. Boat smells are funky and sometimes hard to pinpoint. I would start with head and shower sump. AC drain pan also.

We had a 2 year old 06 44 Dancer back in 08 that already had waste hose failure and odor permeating the hose. That hose runs very close to the salon A/C and along the salon sofa inside the interior. You may want to check it for odors.

Thanks again for all the suggestions. Unfortunately I have already investigated most of them and came up empty. The electronic air quality sensor has definitely peaked my interest. Hopefully this can provide some answers.
