If I am looking at your drawing correctly, you have a direct line from the batteries to the dash. The only reason to use a relay is if the switch is not rated properly for the load of the lights as you stated.

It's not that way on the boat. I put it that way in the drawing to make it easier to understand. I pulled the 12v to run the switch from the fuse panel under the helm.

Did you check the relay contact rating?

Yes 40amp.

Your relay looks like it is installed out in the ER. Is this relay "ignition protected"? :huh:

Must be snowing in Delray. How did you find this thread?
Actually I rewired the entire system and one of my transformers was bad. I went thru 3 until I got one that worked.
Looks like we'll be lighting up that Gin clear water in the Exumas.
