My 1998 330da just got a 24x12 trim tab upgrade and I noticed that with tabs down they are right in front of the underwater exhaust outlets. I cant help but wonder how well a tab can work with massive amounts of bubbles passing under them. The stock size was 22x8 and were also positioned directly in front of the outlets.
Another thing that has me thinking is with tabs full down and cruising along what happens when you chop the throttles down to idle while still moving forward at a decent pace. Will that backpressure from the fully angled tabs up against the outlets cause water revision back up the exhaust?
Is that why the later style underwater outlets have that large cutout on the underside rather than just a 3" hole facing rearward?
Should I consider cutting the floors of my outlets out like the later style?
If not then why did they get redesigned?
