Re: Waiting later. That might be a good idea. Especially in my case, since I just use a winter cover to keep the dust/dirt off the boat. (I keep it in my garage when I'm not using it year round) And, it's surprising how much dust/dirt accumulates on this cover over the winter.
Our fall is typically very wet here, till later in November/early December. My winter cover has 2 vents on it, but apparently there wasn't enough air movement to rid the boat of enough moisture to keep this out.
